In the bitter winter of 1760 CE, the region of Frostheim faced one of its darkest chapters: the Frostlung Plague. The outbreak began in the isolated village of Svarholt, where hunters returning from glacial caves brought the deadly pathogen back to their community. Within weeks, the illness spread to neighboring villages, leaving a trail of death and despair. The plague's symptoms struck with terrifying speed, and those infected rarely survived beyond five days. Entire families were found frozen in their homes, their bodies marked by frost-like patterns and their breath still misting in death. Survivors reported hearing faint, ghostly whispers emanating from the frost patterns on the deceased, further fueling the belief that the illness was a curse rather than a natural disease. Efforts to combat the plague were futile. Clerics and druids summoned from across the region found their magic powerless against the illness, leading to widespread panic and despair. Villages enacted strict quarantines, barring outsiders and abandoning the sick to their fates. This isolation slowed the spread but also led to mass starvation in affected communities, as fear prevented aid from reaching them. The Frostlung Plague eventually burned itself out by the spring of 1761 CE, but not before it claimed nearly a third of Frostheim's population.
