MIS-001-EAE-005: The Duality of…That Thing

Aset, the Seeker has tracked down a creature they cannot catch and asks the party for aid. If the party agrees to help, the Seeker further explains that the creature can phase between physical and psionic forms. To detain it, one team must sleep and fight the creature using the dream spell, while Gu’Gu takes another team to the tundra to fight it. Once the two groups are formed, the Seeker gives the party a brain-eater’s wishbone, an enchanted item that lets the teams telephatically communicate for the duration of the dream spell.   The Seeker joins one team, and casts dream on each ally before falling asleep. Gu’Gu then opens a portal 30 feet from the target, with icy winds howling where the party stands. The creature’s shape is up to the GM, and its form in each realm may differ, but both use a rakshasa’s stats (each with its own hit points). At the end of each round, the form with the fewest hit points regains hit points to make its total equal to the hit points of its other form.   Once the unnamed psionic menace is defeated, the Seeker reveals an iron flask, capturing the creature and bringing the party from the dream into the tundra.  

Developments

The shop’s NPCs change depending on how the characters resolve this Quest.   Nothing Short of a Miracle. If the party defeats the creature, the Seeker thanks them profusely and gives them an enchanted golden scarab. As an action, a creature can kiss the scarab to cast the wish spell. Once used, the scarab crumbles to dust and is destroyed.   Dream On, Dream On. If the team in the tundra is defeated, they are left unconscious, while the dream half is rendered invulnerable until they exit the dream.   Survival of the Sleepiest. If the party in the dream is defeated, they fall unconscious for 1 hour, and the creature escapes the tundra party. Gu’Gu refuses to open a portal unless the Seeker offers him nuts. Being unable to communicate with them until they awake, the crew in the tundra must seek warmth quickly.
