Sangoro Leaf
Key ingredient in the manufacture of a potent poison commonly referred to as "The Red Ruin". A difficult poison to manufacture properly, the leaves of the Sangoro plant can be muddled into a paste, from which the oils of the leaf can be extracted through distilliation and used to create the poison. The Red Ruin causes a powerful anticoagulant effect when it enters the bloodstream, which causes the victim to bleed profusely from the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, nail-beds, and other orifices, ultimately resulting in a painful death by exsanguination.
The Sangoro plant is a vine with a dull, reddish-brown color. A paratistic species of flora, the vines of the Sangoro plant wrap around a tree and begin to grow inward, leeching nutrients from their host. The Sangoro vine is unable to grow on its own, and without a host to sustain it, it withers and dies rather quickly. However, if it is able to properly attach itself to a host, it wraps around the tree and drains it of life until the tree eventually dies within the encircling vines.
Once this occurs, the host tree begins to rot, and it is at this point that the leaves of the Sangoro vine begin to form, and not before. The leaves have a crescent shape and a silver coloration, giving them a appearance that resembles a curved blade. In order for the plant to reproduce, the stem attaching these leaves will break away from the vine if affected by a sufficiently strong wind, allowing the leaves to blow through the surrounding area. Should these leaves manage to attach themselves to another tree, a new vine will begin to sprout from the stem of the leaf, where the process will repeat.
The Sangoro plant is a menace to local flora, and so when it is found in the wild it is usually burned away, along with whatever tree it is attached to. Fortunately, it is somewhat sensetive to its local environment, and as such it only grows in forested areas in the upper elevations of Daeamorant.
