Rotroot

When steeped in hot water, Rotroot creates a poison that, if administered in small doses over time, causes muscular atrophy leading to muscle death. This poison is commonly used by those seeking to give someone the appearance of suffering from a natural degenerative disease.   The root is harvested from the roots of the Tago Tree (pronounced "Tah-goh"), found in the North-Eastern regions of Torvahl. Interestingly, the Tago tree itself isn't all that spectacular, and in truth wouldn't stand out to most. What makes the Tago tree and its roots noteworthy is that the poisonous effects of Rotroot only manifest if the tree is grown in this specific region of Torvahl: If one grows a Tago tree outside of this region, the roots do not adopt these toxic qualities. This would lead an herbologist to believe that it is the soil of that tregion which grants the toxicity to the tree's roots, but poisoners have attempted to grow the tree elsewhere by gathering soil from the region and bringing it with them, only to discover years later that all they've succeeded in doing is growing a fairly unremarkable tree.   While those who seek it out actively desire it for a specific purpose, Rotroot is a fairly niche ingredient, and the market for it is proportionately small. Most poisoners wish for something more immediately lethal, as it takes months for Rotroot to reach its full effect, and administering an excessive amount of Rotroot does little to increase its potency.
