Shifting Frogs

Shifting Frogs are poison elementals from the planet Paleum.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Shifting Frogs are a bright yellow and coated in a toxic slippery slime, with a bright purple ring around their vocal sack. Their muscles are incredibly flexible, even their bones can twist themselves into new forms due to their bones being cartilage like in flexibility and their organs being only losely stuck together in certain areas, otherwise being completely flexible.

Biological Traits

The slimey film on their bodies that, while often causing only a mild rash if touched while the shifter frog is upset, can potentally be stronger and be enough to paralze limbs on contact sometimes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Being Intersex with both fully functional sex organs, shifting frogs are able to easily take the role of either the sperm producer or the egg producer when reproducing via sexual means, while this means they could technically spawn furtile eggs themselves, they find mates anyway as the former is technically incest.

Ecology and Habitats

Shifting frogs usually live in large swamps with plenty of trees around, though due to being pushed out of their natrual home by settlers, they had to flee to marshes instead.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Shifiting Frogs prefer various small berries alongside any grubs they found hidden around under large leaves or rocks. They tended go seaching for food in exess during the summer to dry and store later any of such foods they found during its summer and stored away in grass stuffed borrows, as by winter, they have only this, and whatever grubs and fruits may be left by the flooded winters.

Behaviour

They are generally welcoming and kind among one another, and see one another as quite close, where even distant neighbors are treated as if they were bretheren. They are also known to use their shapeshifitng powers to help them better traverse their lands, for exmaple, if one came across a wall of dead trees they could not cross, they would turn their arms into wings in order to fly above it.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They lived together in tribes and are quite well connected with one another, even seemingly distant members are more then happy to unite with fellow members should they ever be hurt or injuried. They are ruled over by a wise older member that has led their tribe through troubles in the past, often with their spouse by their side. They also lack the concept of gender, as due to being intersex, they see sex organs as simply a part of one's anatomy, but nothing that determines ones social status via them alone.

Facial characteristics

Mostly that of Goliath a frog, with two bumps on the sides of their heads that hold their eyes but otherwise mostly plain.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Yellow Marsh, formerly all around Paleum's swamps.

Average Intelligence

Around 100 on the human IQ test.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Having once lived in dense swamps, they have keen eyesight.

Civilization and Culture

History

The Shifitng Frogs were often seen as savage beasts and not true sapients by those that settled the planet's land, pushing them away from the wider swamps they once lived in, to the point where most of them are now living in a land known as the Yellow Marsh, now sometimes known as the Shapeshifter's Marsh, due to the presense of the Shifting Frogs. The settlers told tall tales of violent, shapeshifting monsters that would stalk people through the swamps, taking any form they need to anyone who was found in the swamps they once lived, unable to be stopped no matter what was used to stop or throw them off, until they finally got to and killed their target before transforming back into their default form of a yellow-ish Frog.   As of now, the Shifting Frogs are safe within the Yellow Marsh, as settlers of the lands thought it had nothing of use for them and the Shifting Frogs were able to blend in easily with the marsh with their already goldish skin. They currently live in peace there, and are open to interacting with friendly outsiders.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Shifiting Frogs were seen as horrifying monsters and thus, were pushed out of their original homes and into the Yellow Marsh, tales were also spun of them changing sexes to tempt nearby lost travelers, only to torture them with sharp claws, beaks, horns and whatever else they could add to themselves, even in modern day, they are sometimes still seen as being bizzare or strange, or in need of fixing due to their ability to change sex and androgynous appearances.

Is their natural form in a shape we'd consider like a frog? Big eyes, webbed feet, long legs..? Have there been any improvements with their relationship with other species, or examples of things going well?

Exactly, they appear as frogs in their default form, aside from their yellow and purple ringed colors of course, as for their relationship with other species, it has improved slightly, as they no longer are genuinely believed to be out and out monsters, though unfortunately some forms of bigotry still remain in them being seen as strange for being intersex, as time goes on however, more have grown accepting of the Shifting Frogs and getting rid of the old stereotypes that surrounded them for years!

I also just fixed a mistake where I left gendered words, things and pronouns in to better showcase them being intersex, my bad for the initial mistake.
