Battler
Battlers are Elemental Animals that have chosen to battle for a living. They often fight in basic tournaments and gain fairly large (and hopefully good) repuations within the battling community. They may also do other types of battles, like double battles, one v ones, or specialized tournaments (changed fields, underwater etc.)
Career
Qualifications
One has to take a course in special arena training spot, after one does enough practice rounds and proves their strength, they are allowed to enter offical arena battles.
Career Progression
One typically starts off as what is called a "Dummy" aka a rookie, one who is only used to fight against more well known battlers, to show off their power, if you beat a few of them, one becomes an intermediate or just a "Fighter". If one beats enough well known local battlers, they can take on battlers with interplanetary levels of fame. Becoming a true "Battler".
Payment & Reimbursement
It depends on Rank, "Dummies" are payed minimum wages (roughly 15-25 gp per hour) and their job is treated as more of a hobby then a real job. "Fighters" are payed decently (around 30-45 gp per hour) and have their jobs treated as valid, even local celebrities in some cases. "Battlers" are often treated as celebrities and are payed rather generously (approximently 50-70 gp per hour). Though many are often payed per fight as well, espcially if the fight is with a famous Battler.
Other Benefits
Battlers (sometimes Fighters but not really dummies) are given social credit for their jobs due to how prevalent battling is in the culture of The Elemental Galaxy. A few Battlers or even Fighters become famous and grow to be well loved and even gain their own fanbase.
Perception
Purpose
To entertain the crowds as well as to put their elemental powers to use. It may also give one fame.
Social Status
Usually quite high, it is often sought after, at least, the rank of Battler and Fighter, no one likes being a dummy.
Demographics
Most who start battling as a career are driven young adults. Some of them are often outcasts, social pariahs or otherwise ignored/dismissed by their own community who are looking to get power back, while others have perfectly fine social standings and only join because battling is idealized in The Elemental Galaxy's culure a way to show off.
History
Battling has been around for years, but, only sense it's re-introduction by a Light Elemental known as Leo Chryses has it been seen as the well loved sport it is today, previously, it was seen as an act of mostly conquest against the other element that battled the other (who was typically a light elemental).
Operations
Tools
In terms of what is used in the battles itself, little to none, outside tools are considered ilegal to use in fact.
Materials
Aside from sometime some power up items (food, drinks and some medications), not really used for the battles themselves. Although dummies (as in training bags, not the rookie rank of battler) are often used quite a bit for practice.
Workplace
Battles take place within Arenas, so one gets used to the roar of the crowd quite a bit, as well as the announcer and other commentators talking to the crowds. The Arena itself often smells like dirt due to the ground. Often, the training grounds set up with training bags of all sorts one uses to practice in smell of sweat.
Provided Services
Being able to get help from the doctors, nurses and ATC's at any time should one get injured in battle at any time.
Dangers & Hazards
Quite a bit, from open flames, to poison gases, to freezing temperatures, to intense psychic aura, not to mention sharp claws and horns. There's a reason there is a doctor and nurse on hand at all times in Arenas.
