Gorvaulth, the Kin Slayer
Ancient structures hold various secrets and tales of their time. Walls carved in their old scripture might be lost to the world but depictions and drawings give insight to their culture's hopes, dreams, and even fears. Some of the older ruins depict a foul winged serpent and its mated partner ravaging the lands and people. Some of the recent ruins, still dating back several centuries, would show more dragons would appear, speculated to be younglings from the mated pair. Very much like their parents, these younglings grew to ravage and terrorize human settlements and cow them to their will. One depiction of this dragon bloodline display a gruesome and bloody conflict, one that would see that a parent of the dragons being slain by two of the three younglings. These siblings became the predominant avatars of fear for the people at this time, chasing the third smaller and weaker one to the north. The siblings grew and vied for power, controlling key settlements quietly and discretely while trying to topple the others. In due time, one proved to be much more shrewd in their dealings. The other bowed to his sibling's superior mind then soon after snapped her neck. With the remaining green dragon becoming the dominant draconic power of the region, it would sweep over the lands and spread its minions and spies out along the thriving societies.
Time would pass and settlements would either fall or develop, becoming kingdoms and then empires. Soreine, the Dominion of Might would slowly become a powerful stratocracy. The green dragon already had its minions worming its ways in the political and military structure, biding time and playing a long game of deception and steering the city's attention and resources to its own goals. After watching Soreine fail to the dwarven halls in the north, the savory infighting of the military leaders was just a cherry on the tart for the dragon. Unknown to the dragon, spies were quietly discovered and watched as they reported back to the dragon's minions. The budding empire realized their failure and conflict was orchestrated by this dragon. To lure this dragon out into the open to strike, a trap was set.
It is unclear how the dominion was able to lure this dragon from its lair. Speculations of a great treasure or magical artifact of old are the common theories. Whatever the plan was, it worked. Dark summer skies overhead set the field of battle and the dragon made its presence known. What followed was a terrible clash of mettle and might, dozens of soldiers falling to acidic fumes that filled the skies. Ground troops suffered even greater casualties. Despite this, the dominion pressed forward and turned the dragon to flee. This is what the Soreine leaders were waiting for. Elite wyvern troops created a pincer move in the skies and chased the dragon back to its lair, preventing the dragon from casting any further spells in the process. Dragonborn soldiers in particular were quite fervor in their pursuit of this primal enemy, many being told tales of their home realm and being slaves of these monsters. Ultimately, the dragon would fall, only a few miles from its lair. The dominion's celebration was short as they struck quick and began to plunder the spoils of its treasure hoard and the draconic corpse.
Over time, the dominion would build an outpost on the site while the grave of the dragon would slowly become infested with poisonous plants and venomous beasts. The vast majority of the dragon has been harvested away but the region is still watched carefully, almost as if the dominion is waiting for something to happen or something to arrive.
