Abrelur, The Duality
Once a creature of timeless and un-ending hunger, Abrelur was defeated and carved into many pieces. Each piece was sentient, alive, and near indistructable, but individually weaker than the creature they came from. Hidden by a secretive organization known as The Crecent Blades, these pieces of Abrelur were to never be reunited, lest it reform once again to reign havoc upon the land.
Some of these pieces were stolen in (------), after an attack on a Crescent Blades monastary by a group of hired mercenaries. Though they were later recovered some years later by an unknown member of the Blades. Each of these pieces attached to a host like a parasite and adapted themselves into various forms to protect the host. These often appeared as weapons, armor, and jewelry, though usually sported eyes, mouths and black goo like appendages in varying numbers. The most well known of these specimens was, The Duality, A sword that also transformed into a bow erratically, but would evolve to have properties of its slain victims, or imbue those traits onto its wielder. These transformations were even induced by its wielder who after some time gained a stronger control over its form and traits.
One example of this was that after consuming the heart of a minotaur the wielder gained great strength but also sufferingfrom an unstoppable rage when they became too injured, throwing themsleves into combat with reckless abandon. These abilities of transformation were not limited to organic consumption, and many metals, gems, and mixtures of compounds like alchemist's fire were also fed to the weapon to produce different effects. Such as Platnium, which made the wielder super naturally charasmatic, but destabilized the weapon casuing it to rapidly shift between sword and bow forms upredictably, even in combat.
When two or more pieces of Abrelur came within several miles of each other they become rabid, often compelling their hosts towards one another and into confrontations. During these confrontations pieces of Abrelur would detach from the host, becoming a multi-eyed, multi-mouthed, gelatinous creature of nightmares, and recklessly attack one another until one devoured the other and then returned to thier host. This gave them more power, and made it more intelligent as the pieces came togetehr as a more singular being once more.
