  • Strength in Numbers - Peryton receive a +1 to their rolls for every peryton in their group.

Attacks
  • Buck - The peryton kicks their target with their back hoofs, dealing 2d8 bludgeoning damage plus their might (strength) modifier. If the target is of size medium or smaller they must succeed on a might (strength) saving check of 12 or they are knocked prone. This attack can be combo'd with Stomp.
  • Charge - The peryton rushes their target, slamming into them for 4d2 bludgeoning damage. If the target is size small or less, they must succeed on a might (strength) saving throw of 12, or they are knocked prone. This attack can be combo'd with Gore.
  • Gore - The peryton makes an attack with their antlers, dealing 1d8 piercing damage plus their might (strength) modifier. If the target is of size small or less, they must succeed on a might (strength) saving throw of 12, or they are knocked prone. This attack can be combo'd with Charge.
  • Stomp - The peryton stomps a prone target with a hoof, dealing 1d8 bludgeoning damage plus their might (strength) modifier and forcing their target to remain prone. This attack can only be used on a prone target.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fur: The hides of peryton have a light brown to chocolate colored fur, white on the undersides. On young peryton, however, the hide is dotted with white spots (a type of camouflage). Peryton moult twice a year, typically being in summer and fall. This moulting is caused by the photoperiod of the area.   Head: Peryton heads are thin and long. On the foreheads of males, there are two pedicels, from which antlers sprout out of and shed. These antlers are made of keratin, and serve as a defensive feature and social status. Male peryton clash, and interlock their antlers to wrestle during mating season, though, at other times these antlers are used to fend off enemies. Each antler can have from one point (called a spike) to twelve or more.   Peryton typically have thirty-two to thirty-four teeth, with two enlarged, tusk-like upper canines on their top row. The cheek teeth of peryton have crescent-like ridges of enamel, which allow them to grind a variety of plants down.   The eyes of peryton are a half inch wide, with a diameter of about an inch. The pupils are ovular, and the ovals are almost exclusively dark brown. Peryton also possess tapetum lucidum, which allows them to see in the dark.     Limbs: Peryton are quadrupeds, having four unguligrade legs which they walk on. Their legs end in cloven (meaning two claws rather than a single hoof) hooves, having two claws and two dew claws on a foot. Aside from these legs, peryton also possess flight wings.     Tail: Peryton have short tails, which have fur that fans out in a sort of spade shape. The top of the tail is a light blown, matching the rest of their coat, which the underside is white. The tail's primary function is to serve as a 'flag', or warning signal to the rest of the herd when one peryton senses danger.     Wings: Perhaps one of the peryton's most useful features are it's wings. Possessing two muscular, 18 ft, feathered wings, peryton are adept fliers. The wings of peryton tend to be elliptical, aiding in fast take offs and tightly controlled flight. The feathers of these wings tend to match the peryton's coat; usually light brown to chocolate in coloration.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduction: Peryton reproduce sexually, and typically have one child every year after mating season.   Gestation Period: The gestation period of peryton is typically two hundred and one days.

Growth Rate & Stages

Age: Peryton can live from four to fourteen years, though, most don't live to a long age, as they are hunted frequently for their hides and meat.

Ecology and Habitats

Temperature: Peryton prefer temperatures between 20 and 62 degrees Fahrenheit, as they are warm blooded, and possess thick hide and fur.   Habitat: Peryton do well in dense forests, and high-grassed fields, as this makes for excellent cover.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Diet: Peryton are omnivorous, though they tend more towards eating vegetation than meat.   Habits: Peryton typically eat small amounts throughout the day, grazing as much as possible.   Digestive system: Peryton are ruminate, meaning they have a four-compartment stomach. The four compartments are the rumen, the reticulum, the omasum, and the abomasum. When minotaur eat, digestive enzymes found in their saliva travel with food through the esophagus to the first two compartments, the rumen and reticulum, collectively known as the reticulorumen. Once food is processed in these areas, it travels to the omasum, and finally the abomasum, or the "true stomach". From here, fecal matter then goes to the intestines, and so-on-so-forth.
