Sabal's Lair

Lair of the Black Dragon, Sabal.   Sabal’s lair, like everything in the Starless Mire, is an exaggerated version of a normal dragon’s lair. At one time it must have been a grand castle - but that was long ago, before it sunk entirely into the muck of the swamp. Ooze now seeps through its slimy stone walls and floor. Where there is no stone, walls of wet black peat have been carved into caverns lined with dark niches. Each niche seems to contain an increasingly occult or macabre item - leering skulls, guttering black candles, cloying incense burners, balls of writhing worms, scabrous rat corpses, and worse. At every turn ancient glowing symbols are carved into the floor, walls, and ceiling. Strangely colored lizards and insects burrow from the wet walls or skitter across the stone, while shimmering motes of raw magic sparkle at the corner of perception.   At the center is a sprawling natural cavern, with a spiral shape like the inside of a snail’s shell. There is a glittering natural spring, which babbles like a gentle brook and casts sparkling patterns of light all across the room
