Valkyrie

Valkyries are selected at a young age and so there are very few qualifications needed to enter the trial phases. The base qualifications are that the person must be female, within 10 years of the heir apparent, and physically able-bodied.

There are two routes to becoming a Valkyrie. Through being hand selected and receiving mentorship or through trials.  

Option #1

Valkyries of the current King are allowed to hand select an apprentice, oftentimes more than one, and train them as a replacement for the next King's Valkyries.  

Option #2

For the Valkyries who choose not personally select their replacements, a competition is held. Girls enter into the trial phases in hopes of winning the apprenticeship of a Valkyrie.     A girl proceeds through the following titles until she becomes a Valkyrie.  

Valkyrie Apprentice

A Valkyrie apprentice is the lowest-ranking Valkyrie. Valkyrie apprentices must participate in the Gauntlet and may even lose their apprenticeships if they do not meet the standards set by their mentor. To fail in the Gauntlet is an embarrassment for both the apprentice and mentor. A Valkyrie may have up to 10 apprentices, but it is more typical to have around 2 to 3.  

Valkyrie Candidate

A Valkyrie candidate is any girl who has entered the Gauntlet and has been accepted to compete. Thousands of girls enter the Gauntlet to face the trials and score points. Whoever has the most points in a certain category will move on to being apprenticed by a Valkyrie of the related position.  

Valkyrie Prospect

A Valkyrie prospect is a girl who has won the Gauntlet either for a specific position or overall. Certain tests within the Gauntlet lend insight into which position a girl will be better suited to. The girl who wins the overall Gauntlet gets to choose the position they would like to train for. There is a maximum of 20 Valkyrie prospects, 2 for each position and 2 reserves.  

Valkyrie Apparent

A Valkyrie apparent is a girl or woman who has been accepted by the heir apparent as a future Valkyrie. They act as if they are complete Valkyries, but are subordinated to the current Valkyries until their retirement and appointment of the new King. Valkyrie apparents trim their numbers down to 9 from 20.

The final rank of Valkyrie.

Valkyries do not receive paychecks for their position. However, they do get UBI(Universal Basic Income) and a solid gold card with their position etched upon the front of the card. This card, when scanned anywhere under Dovahnor control, gives them access to the royal vault and the ability to purchase anything. It can also get them out of sticky situations with the law.

Valkyries are held in very high regard, especially by women and girls. They are portrayed as the protectors of the Ruling family and to be among them means to be among the best-skilled warriors on earth. When outside of their duties, which they never truly are, they are treated similarly to celebrities among the common population.
