Wynthimem Tree

The Wynthimem tree is native to Punjuki and can be found in the wild in the jungles of the north west. It is valued for its beautiful pink flowers and is often grown in gardens, such as the one illustrated above in the Royal Palace of Katrapetch.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

A young tree will not reach flowering age until it is at least twenty years old, by which time it has reached a height of around two metres. It will continue to flower for the rest of its life which can be as long as two hundred and fifty years.

Genetics and Reproduction

The species is dioecious, with male and female flowers being found on separate plants. In the wild, the flowers of the tree are pollinated by a species of hummingbird which has a special long beak, well adapted to reaching the nectar. When grown in areas outside the range of these birds, artifical pollination is required if seeds are to be set.
