Sprats

Sprats are a silvery species of small fish that live in the Zurle Sea. Once thought to be the fry of other larger species, they are now known to be a species in their own right.

Basic Information

Behaviour

Sprats form part of a nocturnal ecosystem in the Zurle Sea, coming close to the surface to feed under moonlight.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Sprats have been fished from the Zurle Sea since the Age of Famine encouraged the fisherfolk of Nephatar to engage in night fishing with finer mesh nets. Although never plentiful they are caught sustainably in sufficient numbers to make them a regular element in the cuisine of the region.   "Sprat Salties" are fried sprats dipped in butter, salt and pepper and usually served with potatoes and xulberries.
