The Holly Cairns

North of the Kron Hills, in southern Verbobonc, there lies the remains of seven barrows. These barrows were raised over fallen chieftains or petty kings of the Oeridian tribes that populated this region centuries ago. They get their name from the numerous holly bushes that cover their tops and the surrounding country.   Simple in construction, the barrows are in various states of disrepair, having been looted over the centuries, though two remain relatively untouched. The first is rumoured to have a curse laid up on it that inflicts a wasting disease upon tomb robbers. The second is more mysterious.   This cairn, the outer stone door is inscribed with ancient Oeridian "spells" to ward off would-be thieves. These runes are actually no more than symbols carved by the beings who use the barrow as a doorway to Underoerth.
