Tidebreak Station

History of Anthuria and Tidebreak Station

Tidebreak Station is located on a tropical planet called Anthuria, currently located in the territory of the Imperial Council of Planets. The station itself is a small settlement located on a small island in its southern sea. The station is small, though its size has varied over time, and includes the station itself and a smattering of stacked homes, giving the settlement a tall, clustered look.   The settlement has existed for nearly a thousand years, being first established on Anthuria around the time they first became able to travel to and from space. The settlement and the station were created first as an official communications station, populated by workers of the station and their families. Though the population would grow more diverse over time. The problems wouldn’t start until several hundred years after the settlement's initial founding.   The planet, Anthuria, and its people, the Anth, were conquered by the Imperials roughly two hundred years ago. As previously mentioned, they are located in the southeastern territory of the Imperial Council of Planet’s territory, near their shared border with O.Sec F. But earlier in Anthuria’s history, they were a part of O.Sec F, until the Imperials conquered the area and took it from O.Sec F.

Anthuria is located in southeastern Imperial territory, near the border with eastern O.Sec F
That particular area of O.Sec F is quite remote, and due to its loosely affiliated nature — not being an official Territorial Governance but instead being loosely affiliated independent planets — they often have a hard time defending themselves from powerful foes like the Imperials. The eastern territories of O.Sec F are far more isolated than the western portion. The west and east of O.Sec F were once connected, but after years of losing territory to both the Imperial Council of Planets and the Hivemind Sentius, the two sides are now completely isolated. And the eastern portion of O.Sec F is in danger of collapsing completely to Imperial rule.   Anthuria and Tidebreak Station, at the time, was one of the first steps towards what is beginning to look like the last gaps of independence for eastern O.Sec F. But, despite their loss to and current subjugation to the Imperials, the Anth have fought back against them, fighting for their freedom, at least once every couple of dozen years or so, to varying degrees of force and success, though ultimately they always fail.   Tidebreak Station, specifically, has always been a strategic location, as it is the perfect elevation for a local satellite array to communicate off-world. Much of Anthuria is rich in copper and shungite, which can disrupt the effectiveness of planet-to-space communication. The island on which Tidebreak Station sits is just high enough, and just remote enough, away from any rich veins of copper or shungite to be able to send stable and clear messages offworld consistently.   Most of the time, Tidebreak Station is occupied by the Imperials, who help manage the population and force them to work the communications array on the island. Though during times of revolt, every dozen years or so, one of two things usually occurs. The Imperials will fight back against the rebels, destroying or damaging the settlement in the process. Or the rebels will take the settlement, and the Imperials subsequently bomb it into oblivion.   Each time, though, the settlement is rebuilt by the Anth as a point of pride and a show of continued rebellion against their captors. They try and keep the island independent and free from Imperial rule, but the Imperials always retake the island at some point or another.   The Imperials allow the locals to rebuild each time because the station’s usefulness works in their favour as well. And the rebuilding process usually takes such significant time and energy, it often helps keep rebellions to a minimum during the years it takes to rebuild.   For the people of Anthuria, Tidebreak Station represents their resilience and hope. Many believe that as long as Tidebreak Station continues to stand, no matter how many times it needs to be rebuilt, they will have a chance at eventually reclaiming their independence. The Anth also value the symbolic spitting in the face of their captors. Repeatedly showing them through their actions that they can be knocked down, but their spirit will not be defeated. They will rise again to fight, time and time again, endlessly if need be,
Summary
A small settlement called Tidebreak Station, located on a coastal beach on the tropical planet of Anthuria, in the Imperial Council of Planets territory. Anthuria was formerly an independent planet associated with O.Sec.F, but was conquered nearly two hundred years ago by the Imperials. Though the planet's people, the Anth, continue to rebel and fight for their freedom to this day.    Tidebreak Station, and its small population, is known for its resilient nature, having been damaged and/or destroyed many times over its existence due to rebellious skirmishes between the Imperials and the general populace. The station and settlement are continually rebuilt by locals, as a symbolic gesture that they can be knocked down but never defeated.
Population
Tidebreak Station is a small settlement at the best of times, currently only holding about 800 people, though this population has varied greatly. If it isn’t damaged too much during its most recent revolt, the population may swell as the settlement only requires light repairs. This allows it to grow larger over the years, with the largest population hitting 2,000 people. However, if the settlement is completely destroyed, as it has been a number of times, it may only hold a few hundred people until it has time to build back up again and attract new settlers and rebels.
