Tidebreak Station
History of Anthuria and Tidebreak Station
Anthuria is located in southeastern Imperial territory, near the border with eastern O.Sec F
That particular area of O.Sec F is quite remote, and due to its loosely affiliated nature — not being an official Territorial Governance but instead being loosely affiliated independent planets — they often have a hard time defending themselves from powerful foes like the Imperials. The eastern territories of O.Sec F are far more isolated than the western portion. The west and east of O.Sec F were once connected, but after years of losing territory to both the Imperial Council of Planets and the Hivemind Sentius, the two sides are now completely isolated. And the eastern portion of O.Sec F is in danger of collapsing completely to Imperial rule.
Anthuria and Tidebreak Station, at the time, was one of the first steps towards what is beginning to look like the last gaps of independence for eastern O.Sec F. But, despite their loss to and current subjugation to the Imperials, the Anth have fought back against them, fighting for their freedom, at least once every couple of dozen years or so, to varying degrees of force and success, though ultimately they always fail.
Tidebreak Station, specifically, has always been a strategic location, as it is the perfect elevation for a local satellite array to communicate off-world. Much of Anthuria is rich in copper and shungite, which can disrupt the effectiveness of planet-to-space communication. The island on which Tidebreak Station sits is just high enough, and just remote enough, away from any rich veins of copper or shungite to be able to send stable and clear messages offworld consistently.
Most of the time, Tidebreak Station is occupied by the Imperials, who help manage the population and force them to work the communications array on the island. Though during times of revolt, every dozen years or so, one of two things usually occurs. The Imperials will fight back against the rebels, destroying or damaging the settlement in the process. Or the rebels will take the settlement, and the Imperials subsequently bomb it into oblivion.
Each time, though, the settlement is rebuilt by the Anth as a point of pride and a show of continued rebellion against their captors. They try and keep the island independent and free from Imperial rule, but the Imperials always retake the island at some point or another.
The Imperials allow the locals to rebuild each time because the station’s usefulness works in their favour as well. And the rebuilding process usually takes such significant time and energy, it often helps keep rebellions to a minimum during the years it takes to rebuild.
For the people of Anthuria, Tidebreak Station represents their resilience and hope. Many believe that as long as Tidebreak Station continues to stand, no matter how many times it needs to be rebuilt, they will have a chance at eventually reclaiming their independence. The Anth also value the symbolic spitting in the face of their captors. Repeatedly showing them through their actions that they can be knocked down, but their spirit will not be defeated. They will rise again to fight, time and time again, endlessly if need be,
