The Reduced Space Organization System

What is the Reduced Space Organization System?

The Reduced Space Organization System is a packaging technology and method designed to safely minimize cargo volume, allowing transport vehicles to arrange their loads with greater efficiency. This system consists of an adjustable array of beams, arms, joints and platforms, all connected to a long, printer-like machine and a computer system. Despite its number of parts, it is a rather compact system and can fit easily on most cargo docks, or even onboard some larger cargo ships.   Cargo, typically unpackaged and not in a crate (this can cause damage to the system), is placed onto a platform, and its dimensions are scanned by a small camera. The computer then calculates the size and dimensions of the item, prompting the system's adjustable components to perfectly enclose the cargo. The printer then ejects the precise amount of material needed to cover the item. This material is a flexible, tear-resistant, heat-resistant and cold-resistant plastic.   Once fully formed around the temporary structure and cargo, the material vacuum-seals the package, shrinking it to its smallest possible form. However, instead of a lumpy, irregular shape, the cargo is encased in a squared or rectangular form. Unlike a standard box, this form can be adjusted in various ways, via an on-package adjustment screen, to fit more seamlessly among other cargo onboard the shipping vessel, optimizing cargo space and efficiency. The system also allows for the readjustment of cargo space if new items need to be added mid-trip or if unexpected issues arise.
Jaxson Cade, teenage genius who designed the Reduced Space Organization System

Who Designed it?

The surprising aspect of this technology is its origin. An extensive research team from a major corporation like Valecore Freight and Transit Authority did not develop it. Instead, it was the brainchild of a teen genius named Jaxson Cade from the endless halls of the Variance space station. Even more astonishing, Jaxson was not formally educated and had been an orphan since a young age.   Despite this, Jaxson now lives in a small apartment with a roommate and a pet, earning rent through repairs of various tech around the station. Jaxson is well-liked, though socially awkward and often perceived as terse. However, they have a soft spot for their roommate, Sera Logic, a fellow orphan he recently befriended. Sera has her secrets that even Jaxson is unaware of. They share a pet cat named Dynamo.   Jaxson is a Variance Born who possesses an uncanny ability to navigate the Halls without becoming completely lost, provided they do not delve too deeply. He learned many technical skills by wandering the Halls, discovering strange technology in the various rooms they explored. Taking them apart and putting them back together using whatever tools he found.   In Jaxson’s own words, he once spent a week disassembling and reassembling machines in a room they stumbled upon in the Halls. When he entered, the door disappeared. They remained calm, always travelling with ample rations for such situations, trusting that the Variance would not harm them capriciously and that it was likely a test or prank.   So, they spent their time tinkering with the machines. After some time, a fully stocked fridge appeared in the room, perhaps a reward from the Variance. Soon, they had taken apart and rebuilt almost everything. Shortly after, the door reappeared, leading back to the Halls, and he returned home. Soon after, they dreamt of the Reduced Space Organization System, designing the blueprints and building the prototype in their cramped living room within a week. To the chagrin of their roommate Sera.
Summary
The Reduced Space Organization System, developed by teen genius Jaxson Cade on the Variance space station, is a compact packaging technology that significantly improves shipping efficiency by shrinking cargo into adjustable shapes. This innovative system has garnered considerable attention from major corporations, all eager to acquire its blueprints.   Jaxson, however, intends for his technology to be universally accessible, rather than exclusive to the wealthy. This idealistic vision has put him in a perilous situation, as he is currently evading capture while attempting to deliver the blueprints to a trusted ally before they can be seized by those who would privatize his invention. His roommate, Sera, also harbours undisclosed secrets, adding another layer of complexity to Jaxson's struggles.
Battle Over Usage Rights
Rumours of the technology have begun to spread on the Variance and beyond. With several MegaCorpos getting wind of the potentially revolutionary cargo technology. Each of these corporations desperately desires access to the blueprints of the Reduced Space Organization System, and will do anything to gain exclusive access to them.   Many of these corporations are eager to offer any amount of money to the mysterious teen-genius who is rumoured to have designed the technology. Others are covertly attempting to steal the blueprints. Despite a need for money and a desire for self-sufficiency, Jaxson has no intention of selling to the highest bidder. Instead, he wants his creation to be accessible to everyone, a revolutionary tool that could benefit all people.   However, he hesitates to release it openly, fearing that a megacorporation, or a collective of them, will twist his technology for nefarious purposes and restrict its use only to the wealthiest, contrary to his wishes. As a result, he is scrambling to reach the Docks from his apartment to give the blueprints to a trusted ally in the Vega-9 Punks who promises to help him in his situation. Along the way, Jaxson is likely to face roadblocks and dangers from the stalking presence of the various MegaCorpos stalking him. And he may face a surprising revelation in regards to his roommate Sera, who has not been fully honest about her past.
