The Kind King

The Kind King Story

For hundreds of generations, the Imperial Council of Planets has reigned with an iron fist, their power built upon the backs of their aggressively genetically engineered populace. The Imperials, bred for militancy and aggression through secret modifications, know only conquest and dominance.   Twenty years ago, however, tales began to spread among the common folk of Phorbaceus Imperia. It spoke of a child born to an Imperial officer of renown who defied the Imperial’s very nature. This child was empathetic, kind, and possessed a spirit untouched by the inherent aggression of their race. This was "The Kind King," and his birth, the tales declared, marked the beginning of the end for the Imperial Council.
News of this anomaly quickly reached the paranoid ears of the Imperial Stratocracy and the Emperor. This aberration, this King of Kindness, a symbol of hope to their oppressed subjects, was a threat they could not tolerate.   The boy's father was quickly called to stand in front of the leaders of the Imperial High Consul. He was ordered to hand over the boy so that we could be dealt with, but the boy’s father declined.

Shockingly, despite years of being bred and nurtured in obedience, the man would not give up his son. Instead, the man was quickly incarcerated, likely tortured and eventually disposed of, though his ultimate fate is unknown.   Despite this display of sacrifice, the Imperial High Consul was unswayed, and assassins were dispatched seeking the boy at his home. But thanks to his father’s delaying tactics, the boy had already been whisked away off-world and was well on his way out of the system.   This was all thanks to the clandestine assistance of a burgeoning rebel network. One that the boy’s father had secretly contacted before his meeting with the Imperial High Consul. These rebels took the boy far from his homeworld to a hopeful safety beyond.   It is prophesied, by the commoners of Phorbaceus Imperica, that the Kind King will return one day and free them from the tyranny of the Emperor. And while the Imperials have searched for years, they have not found the Kind King. Instead, they have put their focus into squashing the myth itself, removing it from the memories of the populace so that it may die before it ever has a chance of becoming true. But to their dismay, the story continues.

Current Whereabouts of the Kind King

The rebels who absconded with the Kind King eventually found sanctuary where many do, on the space station Variance.   There, on the Variance, the Kind King, who bestowed the name of Sol Drift, by those that had saved him and would eventually raise him as adopted parents on the Variance.   On the Variance, Sol would grow as any child would on the expansive space station, a rebellious youth who got into trouble often. Though most times it was due to his kind and empathetic nature, getting into trouble for lying on a friend's behalf to get him out of trouble, or for getting into fights while trying to defend his friends or those who couldn’t defend themselves. He would often wander the halls of the Variance, called by its alluring, mysterious and ever-changing paths.   Eventually, Sol grew into a confident young man, and his wanderlust began. He would leave the Variance and his parents behind and would begin to travel the stars. Though he does occasionally drop in on the Variance to check in on his parents.   Sol has become a well-liked and popular Space Cowboy. Vagabonds and travelling adventurers, known for their daring deeds and willingness to take on dangerous work. He has honed his skills, navigated treacherous asteroid fields, and helped those in need. He gained himself a rather glowing popularity in the Delta Space. Though this growing reputation is working against him, as rumours of a kind and empathetic Imperial Space Cowboy have begun to swirl. Some have even reached Imperial territory.
Summary
The Kind King story is one that began twenty years ago on Phorbaceus Impercia. It tells tales of an Imperial child, empathetic and kind despite his Imperial lineage. The Imperial Stratocracy, fearing this anomaly and fearing the child's potential to become a symbol of hope to their oppressed populace, ordered his father to surrender him; however, the father defied them and secretly contacted a rebel network before his likely demise. The rebels successfully whisked the boy away from his homeworld, safeguarding him on the Variance space station.   Now known as Sol Drift, the Kind King was raised by his adopted parents on the Variance, growing into a confident young man who eventually embarked on a life of interstellar travel. He has become a well-liked Space Cowboy in the Delta Space, known for his daring deeds and willingness to help others, often displaying the same profound kindness and empathy that define him. However, his growing reputation, particularly as a kind Imperial, has begun to attract attention, with rumours even reaching Imperial territory, suggesting his prophesied return to free the populace may be drawing near.
Space Cowboy — Sol Drift
Sol Drift is a striking figure, tall and built with a lean, wiry musculature that speaks of hard-earned strength rather than the genetically modified brute force of his heritage. His shaggy, medium-length dark hair often falls across his brow, complementing his distinctive maroon-colored skin. Unlike most Imperials, whose eyes are a void of pupilless black, Sol's gaze is a captivating deep purple, subtly hinting at a lighter purple pupil within.   Sol is defined by his profound kindness, a trait so inherent it can sometimes be his undoing. He possesses an almost boundless empathy, always willing to take on tasks, no matter how low the pay, if it means helping others in need. While fundamentally well-meaning, he can occasionally come across as a bit bumbling, navigating situations with earnest intentions that sometimes lack finesse. Despite his actions often benefiting those around him, he doesn't exude the commanding presence of a leader. Instead, Sol can be remarkably stubborn and pig-headed when he sets his mind to something, especially when it involves defending or assisting those he cares about.
