General Summary

The Deadpoint Drift | Vol 6 Issue 2

From the Desk of Jill Cannirunnipelt

As the summer months leave us, Deadpoint's newfound industry and spirit refuse to falter. These past few weeks have been as busy and eventful as ever—our top story concerns the first sightings of islands beyond those mapped by the previous generations. On an expedition to Little Dorbard, Adventures blessed with a particularly clear day and keen senses spied the shores of four bodies of land to the northwest. It is likely the southernmost is Bint's Island, a place well documented (but never visited) by transports. The others, however, are all pure mysteries!

Restless spirits, ominous messages

Little Dorbard offered more than sightseeing. The party, comprised of new arrivals Fiona Quapple & Nulla Luck as well as seasoned explorers Ol' Bakka Rybak, Karick Stahland and Blue Bell discovered weathered ruins among the plains. In a sub basement below a rotting wine cellar, they were accosted by a ethereal being. It seemed to be guarding a puzzle: several shaped holes in the ground that lay before a inscribed wall-tablet. The etching of the markings have been brought back for further research, but Karick insists that they read "Do not open under any circumstances."

Apart from this disturbing find, the only other trouble on the island appeared to be roaming wolf packs in the scant forest (that's right, a forest!) on Little Dorbard's western side. All the adventurers made it back with all their limbs.

Sunbeam deemed exceedingly adequate

On their way back to Deadpoint, The Thyme of Your Life's new weapon systems were tested on some unfortunate Sombré statues. Parked in Dorbard South's bay, The Dip, the Fermessclon Type 1 Turret System was unloaded in a minute-long blasting session. Even in the daylight, the pyrotechnics were rather intense: grass burst into flame, sand was glassed, and statues shattered. All witnesses to this event appeared quite inspired by the sight.

New points of interest on remote islands

Airspear Origin Society mapping ravens were set aflight over Dorbard South, Dorbard North and little Grainbean.

On Grainbean, a singular structure, rather large in size, was detected in its low hills.

Dorbard South had some odd sunken structures along its western swamps. There appear to be a family of Chimeras nesting along the island's neck, south of The Dip. Some unidentified objects were noted by the birds in The Scoop (likely a shipwreck), and in the channel to the northeast.

Most interesting was Dorbard North. Highlights include:

  • Several ruined structures along the inner shore of the large, northwest lake.
  • A river and lake system that runs through a vast forest, and signs of habitation near the junction of two of those rivers.
  • Strange, unnatural lines bisecting the western forest and eastern swamp.
  • At least five encampments and roadways within the eastern swamps.
  • Also confirmed was a large, lone tree atop a hill that overlooks the southern bay.

These do appear to be signs of civilization—whether it is active or abandoned remains to be seen.

Development in missing explorer case

Early explorers Melford Redmead and Falon Speare went missing in the late Spring of this year. No clues to their fate were uncovered, until recently. A small camp was discovered on the tip of Dorbard South, closest to the channel separating it from Little Dorbard. The recovery of a journal betrays the notion that the pair attempted to make it across in merely a canoe. If this is the case, they are truly lost. A dispatch has been sent to the authorities at Port Tessalad to inform them of these findings.
