The Gate Network

The Gate Network is a series of wormhole generators that are found across the galaxy. Their mechanism is poorly-understood. When a user with a networked device comes nearby, they will be greeted with the message, "enter key phrase between one and five words". Depending on the phrase chosen, the Gate may open.   Rings are represented by a torus shape, with twisting ridges that continuously spiral around its body, possibly to prevent the wormhole from ever collapsing. Their inner diameter is roughly 3 meters. The Rings themselves seem to be constructed from a highly resilient material that does not erode over the course of millions, even billions, of years. An object traveling through a Ring treats the wormhole as a higher-spatial corridor between the linked points, effectively reducing transit times to near-zero values, though time does elapse.   An open Gate provides instantaneous transportation to another Gate, regardless of the distance.   Discovered Portal Networks   The Triton Gate Network on Triton.

Geography

Gates can be found anywhere. The first Gate to be discovered was found in an icy fissure on Neptune's Moon of Triton. The second Gate was found in a humid jungle, and the third was found on a blasted salt plain.
