Basic Beach
Basic Beach is an artificial world created by a long-gone civilization. The planet itself is controlled by a giant brain made of the fabled computronium at the planet's center. In place of a crust or mantle, the planet is full of server rooms, power apparatus, coolants, and more. The planet uses its sunward ocean as a solar battery. It absorbs heat over the course of several hours, heating up. When the artificial intelligence at the planet's center needs to recharge, it draws heat from the ocean, freezing it over.
The artificial intelligence in the planet was designed to calculate how to reverse entropy. It was unable to fully realize its purpose, and was only able to calculate all factors contributing to entropy. It has concluded that all biological life accelerates entropy, and thus should be ended. This powerful machine had complete control over its planetary environment. It was shown to be able to bathe its surface in radiation, rapidly create and destroy terrain, change the atmospheric composition and the temperature, and to grow lifeforms from the smallest samples. However, it has no way to make changes happen outside of its own planet, aside from downloading its perspective onto other virtual entities that willingly interface with it.
The brain on Basic Beach was badly damaged by an expedition of humans, causing a disintegration of the planet. Further expeditions to Basic Beach are not recommended until local conditions are confirmed to be safe.
Geography
Atmospheric Conditions:
Pressure: 0.7 atmospheres
Composition: 100% nitrogen
Day length: Tidally locked; no day/night cycle
Gravity: 0.9
Temperature Range: -1 °C/0 °C/1 °C minimum/mean/maximum
This world is divided starkly into two. On the sunward side, an ocean exactly one meter in depth covers half of the planet. On the dark side, the ground is featureless, flat, and made entirely of potting soil.
Fauna & Flora
Basic Beach has neither flora nor fauna.
