Human
Humans are a species that the Salamander seems to have a strange fondness for. We're not sure why he likes us, or why the Dark Forest hates us, but merely being a human carries a weight in the Dark Forest. First of all, the laws of the Dark Forest only target humans. Other sentient species can pass through the Dark Forest unhindered. We see this with Cicero and his use of the Dark Forest as a method of travel. Second, the Salamander seems to go out of its way to try and help humans, and has a strange distaste for most other races.
Whatever the reason for it, being human is both a benefit and a detriment in the Dark Forest.
