Rift

A Rift is an uncontrolled tear between worlds.

As a spatial anomaly in Teel, they are often created by the destabilization of Athem fusion or improper manipulation of Sphere technology. Rifts act as gateways, portals, or chaotic distortions of space-time, capable of drawing beings, objects, and energy from other realities into the local reality.

Origins and Causes

Rifts are most commonly caused by:

  • Improper Athem Fusion – Excessive concentration or misalignment of Athem can fracture the local space-time continuum.
  • Sphere Technology Misuse – Spheres, devices capable of channeling and manipulating Athem across distances, may create rifts when overcharged, misprogrammed, or combined with unstable Athem sources.

Classification

Rifts are classified by severity and stability:

  • Minor Rifts – Temporary distortions causing minor glitches or fleeting arrivals; usually self-resolving within hours.
  • Moderate Rifts – Persist for days; capable of destabilizing local environments.
  • Major Rifts – Long-lasting, highly unstable, and dangerous. Often require coordinated intervention to prevent catastrophic damage.
