The Dark Realm

"What do we know of the Dark Realm? Obviously we know it is the home of the Devils, the Asura, that are summoned to our Realm by magic or pooled miasma or curses. Scholars and sages have questioned them extensively. Some report a ream of fire and ashes. Others a drowned realm or swept by giant waves that smash and wipe away everything before them. Or it is ravaged by tornado and poison clouds. Even the ground opening and pouring out lava over ruined cities. So that is one constant: the Dark Realm is covered in shattered ruins. And the Asura themselves- devils possessed of ravenous hungers, wrath and violence, deception in appearance and acts. Hostile, belicose, insincere, prideful, boasting and false. They envy our world and hunger after it. They are desperate to feed their desires, lusts and greed. And we know there is a heirarchy of lesser Preta vermin that take on the forms of the minor monsters - Goblyne, Daugr, Ghouls, Zombies, Skeletons, the maniacal Slashers as well as others. Then there are Greater devils- the proper Asura that create Vampires, Wraiths, Hungry Ghosts and devil creatures. And these follow more powerful Lords, and Principalities before the greatest devils called Apocalypses, or sometimes Reavers. Strangely, some mortal mages and sages seek passage to explore the Dark Realm. Such madness is to be pitied and feared.."
- Hatheod, scholar of Galkane, Rour Empire. 1268 of the modern age

Geography

If the reports of Devils can be trusted, the Dark Realm is a reflection of the living world. The same sea and lands- or at least in roughly the same locations, though shattered and broken. No cities, only sprawling ruins everywhere. Though the devils do not build- so ruins refecting the ruins we find scattered almost everywhere as old crypts and dungeons? Or from some builders in some past age of the world?

The climate is of strong winds, growing to tempests. Rains in torrents, raing fire or ice. Blazing heat and freezing blizzards. It seems to change frequently, perhaps daily or every few days. The residents are in constant war, both individually and within and across hierarchies. Chaos seems to be the rule in all things. The Devils do not speak of food or plants. Only constant battle and stuggle, death and reincarnation, over and over.
