Island of Lympstow

Lympstow lies to the south and east of Rou and the Capital of Zheki. It is a colonial holding of the Kingdom of Zheki and the home of the Beastians. The island was conquered in 1134 of the Rour calendar by Piaphar the Second. The Beastians possessed simple iron weapons but no musket or canon. Indeed, after 135 years, the Beastians are still prohibited from possessing or using black powder. The island is a great source of the kingdom's iron and other metal wealth today.   The beastians lived in town settlements or nomadic tribes by their physiogomy- Aves, Carns, Herbes and Omnos. Multispecies communities were rare. They lacked clear leadership- making choices by community debate. They possess some breeds with no known ancestral types elsewhere in the world. The Beastians themselves say that their ancestors simply awoke on the island, created by Fortune and Nature. Records go back to about 300 years with older pictograms of unknown origin but showing Beastian types. The beastians are uman-like creatures with features of familiar and unfamiliar creature types. The Aves take conformation of dove or pigeon types, Corvids, Raptors like hawks, eagles and owls and galliformes. They have arms covered in feathers with hands. They typically have enough wing feather to glide or flap to double jumping distances or 1/2 pace. The Carnes are foxlike, feline, bears and wolves/ dogs and mustelids. Herbes are cervid, antelope, rabbits and strange long faces things, and almost minotaurs. Omnos- inclused masked ones like dogs or mustelids, flatnosed fat bodied things with wiry hair, pale grey things with rat tails that can grip, Rats, and Squirrels.   The resident beastian peoples are diverse but simple by the standards of other peoples. Rural, pastoral or nomandic primarily.  The outlook is primarily practical.  They love wild tales of adventure and worship ancestors raised to demi-godhood and elementals they made deals with. Collectively they are called the Dryght - Riga who brought fire and craft, Tyn the earth cultivator, Buug of the forest and shaper of wood and hunt, Kraa the wind and sun, Xyt of secrets, darkness and caves, teacher of magic. Theb of the sea.   The native cultures had made outrigger canoes to paddle around the island but all other land was beyond sight. They had cultivated a wide variety of fruits, nuts, vegetables and grains. A land animal with a long neck called Vola exist in several varieties and a medium-sized species was domesticated as food and fiber. They domesticated Thule, a large semi aquatic creature with tentacled face, sad eyes and heavy milk production. They built locks on several rivers and walls to retain the Thule that were raised for food and milk. Cassin, a Thule cheese that is a yellow, lightly smoked cheese is popular, or Juk, a salty unripened green tinted one or creamy faff. Thule leather was common and giant spiders exist on the mountains and Lympstow harvests the silk for fine garments. The threads are unwound onto tines mounted on a wheel that is turned to make spools of silk.   The Beastian codes stress Honoring word and ties, charity to the needy, disabled or distressed and simplicity. They possessed only tribe and village leaders with most things chosen by individuals or community votes.   As a colony of Zheki the beastians are kept under Zheki lords who are owed tribute regularly. The colony is a protectorate and residents are citizens of Zheki. They can and do seek permission to leave and travel, conduct trade or join guilds. The beastians are prohibited from owning musket on the island and inspectors regularly sweep villages, inspect shipments and watch for smugglers. Beastian possession of a musket or powder on the island is a death sentence as is providing powder or muskets.   The southern most part is independent- a narrow strip 15-20 miles deep and occupied by the city of Thethe and the town of Rothington. Several things make it undesireable for Zheki occupation. The region is influenced by a Monolith on the shores of the Swasings River. Periodic eruptions of Scarecrow monsters come from the area of the Monolith. A race of Dog-like monsters called Gnolls inhabit the eastern side of the mountains. Mount Pala is subject to eruption and release of noxious fumes that cloud the eastern part of the region. And finally a population of Ozymandian Torvanians had settled the area after fleeing the Rour empire's conqust in 1100. Their colonies had been hostile to the locals until the Kingdom of Zheki's invasion and conquest in 1132, but found common cause. They have reached a peace with the Kingdom by agreeing to keep black powder from the beastians. Thethe has a Adventurer's Guild office.

Geography

Lympstow is a little over 200 miles from the northern most tip to the wide southern shores and about 190 miles east-west.  The eastern half is occupied by the 6 mountains - Hath of Fire, Doss of Wind and ice, Jovl the bare, Kipa of the Tears, Slaht  the red and Sharp Pala.  Hath and Pala are active volcanoes, where Hath is content to smoke and rumble with a glowing caldera, while Pala is a jagged peak criss crossed with lava trails, tunnels and build ups.  The Western half is mixed savana, tropical and temperate rain forest.  In the south the winds tend to be westerly with pushes north or south seasonally.  In the north the winds tend to south easterly
