Chapter 1, Scene 1: The Return from the Laboratory of Amaleen Dragonbreast

Background Summary

Cassius has served for 2 years as the court magister and advisor to his 'noble', childhood friend Elrich, a fellow 'Son of Henry', in his inherited village of Berdusk within the kingdom of Elturgard. However, things have steadily become dire and it's clear to why his good friend has pleaded for Cassius assistance. Monsters, once a rare sight, have begun to encroach upon the borders of the village. The town guard is little more than volunteers from the villagers. Merchants coming through the city for trade are harassed on the roads. And production and crop yields, once a famous facet of Berdusks' former glory, are now meager and subject to pests and famine.

Arcadia joins as yet another 'Son (Daughter?) of Henry' a year later, reuniting the trio of orphens 'rescued' by Henry. She puts her skills to work as a Monster Hunter Sorceress intending to fight back the creatures that dare to invade the lands of her compatriots. The trio are joined by Elrich's vassals, a Kenku Monk known as Bonecrunch, and a human Scout known as _______.

To counter act the pests infesting the fields and bandits raiding the roads, the party set out for the Reaching Woods, a place known to be base of operation for both.

However, while exploring those areas, the party also happened upon the hidden laboratory of Amaleen Dragonbreast, the shut-in sister to the famed leader of Berdusks' golden years. Cassius recounts the events and exploits of Elrichs expedition to discover the Library and Laboratory of Lady Amaleen Dragonbreast to Arcadia after she returned to the village...
