Earth Elemental
Beings of living earth and stone, earth elementals are the primary occupants of Terra, and are related to Grumbar, Primordial of Earth.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Earth elementals usually resemble vaguely-humanoid clusters of rock or earth, and are not as prone to imitating recognizable facial characteristics as some other elementals. As Earth comprises a huge array of minerals, earth elementals are just as likely to resemble grey or brown amalgums of common stone and soil as they are crystals and gemstones, sand, clay, or - especially in the para-elemental plane of it - mud.
Genetics and Reproduction
Like all elementals, earth elementals do not reproduce, and reform in Terra if destroyed.
Ecology and Habitats
Earth elementals can be found anywhere with a strong elemental presence of Earth, but are most common in their home realm of Terra.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Elementals do not require food, drink, or sleep.
Behaviour
These elementals represent the stoicism and patient nature of their element. Some scholars argue that they do not have moods, only reflections of their natural role in a given situation. Stone is not given to quick changes, and so an elemental standing placid does not necessarily indicate acceptance, any more than a sand elemental's erratic movement should indicate restlessness.
Others attribute the origin of elementals to the shift that all Primordials withstood in the formation of the material Realms, which is when elementals first appeared. Under this theory, elementals represent the fragmented personhood and essence of their element. In the case of Earth, its stoicism, patience, acceptance of change, its strength, and its multifaceted nature. This animism-adjacent view is most common in the Elemental realms, and is generally supported by the elementals' genie cousins.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Heavy by nature, earth elementals make great use of their innate ability to command rock and stone in battle. They can burrow through the earth without leaving tunnels or rubble behind them, and can call their element to them, conjuring it into being if necessary.
