Drake
Created by Bahamut to be fierce but obedient workers, drakes are beasts despite their draconic appearance. Their desirable draconic traits combined with the capacity to be domesticated has resulted in a near-infinite variety of drake breeds across the realms.
Basic Information
Anatomy
May different breeds of drake exist, and most demonstrate differences in scale composition and colour, as well as in their horns, ridges, size, and breath weapons. But there are some common trends.
Drakes are, as a rule, wingless and incapable of using magic. They tend toward the muscular, especially if bred as guard beasts or for military purposes, though leaner drakes bred to be couriers or mounts are also common.
A drake's colouration depends on its ancestry, and unlike true dragons, mottled or mixed-colour scale patterns are common.
Ecology and Habitats
Drakes can be found nearly anywhere if housed properly, but some breeds may prefer specific climates over others.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Drakes are carnivorous, but can digest supplementary vegetables. A responsible drake-owner should prioritize meat in the creature's diet, but provide a wide variety of foods to maintain appropriate nutrition.
Behaviour
Ferocious and willful, but no more so than a large dog or horse. Drakes demonstrate intelligence on par with most dogs, and react well to classical training methods. The prized traits of their armour-like scales and natural breath weapons makes them expensive to acquire, however.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Drakes have breath weapons proportionate in range to their size, and in type to their genetic ancestry.
