Church of Selûne

Any mortal who devotes themself to the Moonmaiden may be called Selunite. Selunites work to foster equality and diversity throughout the Realms. They work to uplift those who are downtrodden or marginalized, and fight oppression in every form. They are united by their beliefs in the individual worth of every mortal being and the importance of self-efficacy and resilience.

Tenets of Faith

Selunites share two tenets of general guidance, though each individual is expected to interpret its application for themself.   The first tenet regards the worth of mortal beings. Each person has potential to be a force of good in the world, and deserves the chance to realize that potential. Following this, most Selunites believe in mercy, forgiveness, and second chances. But this is not to say that Selunites lack teeth.   The second tenetis that oppression is offensive in every form, whether individual or national, and must be opposed. The manner of opposition is left to the individual. Many take up sword and stave against evil forces in the world, but many more work peacefully to oppose oppressive structures, fighting their battles in castle courtrooms and town halls.

Priesthood

As an informal order, Selunites do not have a standardized code for vestments. However, they generally gravitate toward white and silvery tones, often with notes of blue or violet, in homage to the moonmaiden and the night sky, which are sacred to this clergy.   The difference between a priest of Selune and a devoted follower is not in the degree of commitment, but of responsibilities. A priest makes supporting Selune's work into their full-time occupation, forsaking other trades and quests in pursuit of realizing the Moonmaiden's dream. They may occupy a role as guide or counsellor to other selunites, or provide organizational support for a temple. They may pursue political power to enact Selune's will on a broader scale, or take up sword and make a more active stand against evil forces.

Granted Divine Powers

Selune grants her worthy faithful a sampling of her radiant power. Selunites can wield the moonlight as a beacon for the weary, a source of magical healing, a warding wall of defense, and a doom for creatures of the dark. Favoured Selunites are also skilled diviners, able to read hints of the future in the face of the moon.   As well as these, some Selunites have been known to commune with wolves and owls, or even to possess the power of flight. As with most favoured with divine magic, they can also heal injury, poison, and disease.

Temples

Being only loosely organized and lacking central leadership, Selune's faithful do not usually operate from a temple, instead meeting in homes or communal spaces such as a town hall or square. When a group of Selunites has a dedicated structure, it is usually a small, humble structure used for facilitating meetings.   Larger temples may add more specialized rooms and sections, such as ward wings for providing shelter to the downtrodden, rooftop divining space with full view of the moon, libraries, galleries, and other places for celebrating diversity of worth and talent. Such temples often also feature open gardens, reflecting pools, and other sources of respite.

"Like the moon, mortal worth has many faces."
