Campestri

A species of animate mushroomfolk, campestri may be found in any saline environment.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Resembling nothing more than a toadstool, Campestri average 2-8 inches high. Their caps, which are always white- speckled, can be many shades, but most commonly red, tan, or purple. The stem is white to pale brown, and usually features partial skirts or veils. The Campestri's face is on the stem, and it has no limbs.

Ecology and Habitats

Salophoric creatures, campestri colonies usually settle in saltwater marshes or on the banks of saltwater ponds.

Behaviour

Curious and playful, campestri are social creatures. They are drawn to music in all forms, from birdsong to symphonies to a hiker's off-key humming.
Campestri have intelligence on par with human children and many species of dog. They have been seen to respond intelligently to language, but can only communicate through mimicry. They are usually more interested in imitating music and singing than spoken word, and will happily sing along to any melody. Their voices are universally nasal-sounding, and high-pitched in a range from falsetto to soprano.
