Aasimar

A Celestial mirror to the elemental Genasi and infernal Tiefling races, Aasimar are humanoids whose form and abilities vary greatly from their mundane peers due to the influence of Celestial blood or blessing.

Basic Information

Anatomy

An Aasimar can result in nearly any humanoid race, resulting in a wide variety of species anatomies. However, the Celestial influence is always visible, though with varying degrees of subtlety. Generally taller than their mundane kin, Aasimar trend toward the pale in their colouration, sometimes with a subtle glow in their hair, skin, or eyes.   More specific features of an Aasimar's appearance vary both by their humanoid ancestry and, in the case of celestial ancestry, the specifics of their Celestial ancestor. For instance, while Aasimar most commonly have hair, skin, and eyes in shades of gold, white, silver, or bronze, Those descended from a Coatl may exhibit vibrant colours that distinguish them from the mortal side of their lineage. The presence of feathers, scales, or even wings can also be a Celestial "tell" among certain ancestry lines.

Genetics and Reproduction

Aasimar have the same reproductive type as their humanoid ancestors. An Aasimar may result from the union of a celestial and a humanoid, or a mortal being could be transformed into an Aasimar through the effect of celestial magic.   The child of an Aasimar is not necessarily an Aasimar, and has an equal chance to receive only the humanoid side of their Aasimar parent's traits. Like Genasi and Tieflings, the trait can go unmanifested for generations.

Growth Rate & Stages

Aasimar mature at the same rate as their humanoid ancestor, but live longer.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Aasimar live longer than their humanoid counterparts by an average of about 50% the species lifespan, regardless of whether their Aasimar nature came from an external blessing or an internal bloodline. Moreover, innate magic common to the celestial ancestor is often seen. Minor healing abilities, the creation of light or flame, and abilities relating to the banishment of undead and the protection of living creatures are common, but a complete list of possible Aasimar abilities is impossible.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Aasimar are often named according to the conventions of their humanoid or Celestial heritage, or a combination of the two.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Many Aasimar learn to speak Celestial in order to better connect with this side of themselves.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Aasimar usually adopt the culture group they are born into, but may have a greater interest in learning about and embodying elements of Celestial culture, as well. Conversely, an Aasimar who faces hardship as a result of their angelic traits may reject Celestial culture or even embrace Infernal influences as a form of contrarian rebellion.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

As a group whose ancestry has a foot in two or more cultures, Aasimar often struggle to balance their backgrounds. Depending on the culture they live among, their celestial heritage may put them on a platform of unreachable expectation, or their humanoid side may be seen as a handicap on what would otherwise be greater powers.
