World Anvil SummerCamp 2025

Overview

Goal: Diamond

I will be focused this challenge on a series of five mountains and two cities on a river between them. These exist on the Island Continent of Bellflower   The great map of the mountains and what lies beneath, as well as the timeline are secrets for players in the world.

Week 1 Homework

Assignment 1:

Think about ways the theme of Nourishment affects your world. Do people generally have what they need? What happens when they don’t
Not sure yet how this applies in specific yet but as I prep I will think about it. Food, Magic, Power and Entertainment keep the bodies, minds and souls nourished. So there are paths to go down.

Assignment 2:

Download the pledge document and fill it out with your goal for Summer Camp!
I am planning on Diamond this year as I have some vacation time and kid-free time this summer. My focus is on a megadungeon I have had noodling around in my brain for a while. I am prepping with a rough layout, timeline, and historical characters. Beyond that, we will see how the prompts go.

Assignment 3

If you found any outdated articles in your world, update the most important ones now! Do the same with your worldbuilding meta.
I have a couple of things to clean up.
  • Articles not linked properly to parent categories (Done)
  • Old documents in various scattered notes should be moved to World Anvil (if I use them for prompts I will take a pre-word count and add 300 so as to not feel I am cheating)
  • Update the summary and home page (Done for now)
  • Link articles to maps: to help find which countries need writing up still for example
  • Update the Meta (DONE!)

Week 2 Homework

Assignment 1:

Look at the cultures and areas you’ll focus on for Summer Camp, and think about how their past shaped them.
I have only begun to look at Dwarves, Elves, Eye Tyrants, Dragons, Kobolds, Gnomes, Humans, and Yith. Each will have empires, settlements, personalities, and history. I have several snippets written down in various books, blog articles from a long time ago and other notes that I need to complile.

Assignment 2:

Go to your world’s homepage and imagine you’re a new reader discovering the setting for the first time. What should you change to make the experience more engaging?

Assignment 3:

Find your earliest worldbuilding project. What mistakes did you make that you want to avoid? What good ideas from those early days can you integrate into your current project? Remember to take a moment to be proud of how far you've come!
Not sure what was the first, it likely was a game/world design that was faulty just because it was an excuse to add a new overpowered class to Basic D&D. The second I can remember was mostly self insert and was more fanfiction than anything. Not sure I learned to be more narrow and constrained as my primary world is far too large in many ways.

Week 3 Homework

Assignment 1:

What transformations and adaptations have the people in your world gone through? What changes are going on right now… and who is trying to stop them?
Recently the plauge, the collapse, the wars etc. Rebuilding infrastructure, founding industry, and building nations is important. Several nefarious individuals work to take advantage of things, some profit of the divisiveness and work to promote disruption.

Assignment 2:

Choose a new genre, style, or author, and take a look at their art! Write what you learned from them and what inspired you.
Been looking at black and white or pencil art lately. Especially becasue of Shadowdark and Art of Timmothy Von. This includes Chris Ramirez and Yuri Perkowski

Assignment 3:

Read a couple of articles from the community, give them a like (and why not a sticker!), and write about what inspired you.
Read few, will read more as the challenge procedes.

Week 4 Homework

Assignment 1:

Think about current events that will impact the future. Who is working to create a specific kind of future?
Several groups come to mind. Order of Bamboo, Loremasters of the Omoikane, more local to the Region I am working on this summercamp: The Provisional Regent of Vebra wants to grow Vebra to be a mojor trading city. The nearby lord of Hervan wants to extend his life through magical means. The Order of Bamboo has a local double agent who desires riches, fame and women. The dark fae lord known only as the leapoard king desires control and entertainment, playing all sides violently and adopting servants in the resulting trauma is his cruel idea of entertainement.

Assignment 2:

Make sure everything’s ready—from your writing space to your writing schedule—before Summer Camp begins!
Several online notes are set up, as well as a physical notebook with lore and ideas sketched out as a basis for preliminary ideas to be formed ready for prompts. Schedule is going to be 3-4 the Saturday of release, 1-2 a day after that. First thing on Saturday is to outline titles for all prompts released that day.

Assignment 3:

Who or what will help you achieve your goal? What will your sharing strategy be during Summer Camp?
My wife will also be participating, so we will assist each other.
