Seajumping

Seajumping ("Hekinsules" in the Daphnean tongue) was a popular aquatic sport among the Daphnea. The sport was a contest to see who could dive into a marked zone on the sea from the top of a moving water eagle.
The sport was heavily dependent on water eagles, large amphibious birds that were native to the Sunlit Isles. Often, a platform was saddled to the birds, though in some cases seajumpers rode water eagles with no support.   When jumping off the seabird, there were two objectives. The most important objective was to land within a marked area of water, signaled by either magical or physical means. Some waterjumping leagues opted for a target style zone, in which the closer to the center a waterjumper landed, the more points they would obtain. Occasionally, the landing zone was surrounded by a stone or wood platform, but this was frowned upon and was virtually unseen after the Second Era.    The second objective was to perform a clean jump. This included dismounting the water eagle properly and performing flips on the way down to the landing zone.    The distance of one's dive from a water eagle ranged from ten to two hundred meters.
