Evertree

The Evertree was a legendary massive tree significant in Ren Berig culture and mythology.
Thought to be paramount to the continued survival of the Ren Berig people, the Evertree was the largest motivation behind the group's ritual fighting; each generation had to be strong and ready to defend the tree if ever it was put into danger.

Purpose / Function

The tree dated back to the earliest parts of Ren Berig mythology, from the time before they came to Beurum. It predated the Ren Berig themselves, having been created sometime during the First Era by the Goddess Mordaea. The tree functioned as a kind of distribution center for the souls of the Ren Berig people; when a Ren Berig individual died, their soul was transported by the God Aegonata to the Evertree. The tree itself then reconfigured the individual's life force into some sort of new life, and deposited it back into the world. The new life was delivered by Aegonata's sister, the sun goddess Donn Benna, by means of her rays.   The Ren Berig ancestral home, the island of Tir'na Getta, was the tree's location. When the Ren Berig population became too large for the island, and the island was raided by Kantaran conquerors, much of the Ren Berig people moved to Beurum. The tree was left in the hands of the Seven Roots, seven extremely powerful and skilled groups of druids devoted to defending the tree from any danger.   The Seven Roots prophecized that a day would come when the Evertree would face great peril, too much for even them to defend. On this day, all of the Ren Berig would have to journey to Tir'na Getta to defend the tree. Maps of and to the island were frequent elements in Ren Berig art, and many Ren Berig individuals made pilgrimages to the tree during their lifetimes.
