Bandit

"Without a doubt, they are some of the greatest scum that exist on this land." - Kunesh Hosek
A bandit, also known as a highwayman, footpad, or brigand, was an individual who made a living by robbing and killing others, especially along wilderness roads.
The nature of bandits varied widely. Nearly all bandits organized themselves in groups ranging from small to huge, with some bandit groups becoming self-sufficient communities of five hundred or more individuals. Banditry was practiced across all races and ethnic groups, and was particularly prevalent in times of economic depression or otherwise difficult circumstances. In particular, banditry was often a problem after destructive conflicts such as the The Twenty-Year War.   Powerful bandit groups were different from crime syndicates in that banditry was generally practiced in a distinct area in places of wilderness, whereas crime syndicates operated in more urban settings. Additionally, crime syndicates usually used more subtle means than bandits to achieve their goals, often refraining from killing others when they could avoid it.

Career

Qualifications

Bandits usually needed to be skilled in combat and possess courage. Some larger groups, however, contained certain non-combat roles that were necessary to support their large numbers.

Perception

Social Status

Most bandits were held in extreme contempt because they harassed the local populace. However, a select few bandits that targeted powerful individuals were sometimes admired by those in lower-class professions, who saw them as a symbol of rebellion against their oppressors.

Operations

Dangers & Hazards

Depending on the response of local law enforcement, the life of a bandit could often be short and end violently. Commoners often remarked that it was very rare to see a bandit with gray hair.
