Women's Commercial Coalition
Founded in [PLACEHOLDER] by [PLACEHOLDER], The Women's Commercial Coalition is an organization that aims to employ, educate, and empower women of all classes across the Vyzandine Empire. While supported by male and female business owners alike, it only seeks out and hires women, and male supporters are uncommon. The Coalition manages several bunkhouses which are scattered around the Empire, and which provide housing, food, bathing, and clothing needs for any women that may need them. Though its ultimate goal is to aid in the rehabilitation and financial establishment of these women in need, they care for them without any requirement of labor.
Public Reception
At its start, the WCC received backlash and condescension from the “genteel” populace—from both men and women. Traditional Vyzandine sentiment holds that women are the more delicate (or “decorative”, as one official put it) sex, and should be relegated to advisory roles, or at most very light labor. To the great encouragement of the Coalition’s membership, the organization’s widespread success has made laughingstock of these voices and sentiments.
Operations
The Women’s Commercial Coalition provides education in diverse subjects, but has a focus on the trades. While present in fields related to mathematics and the sciences, women have been largely excluded from the areas of artisanry and skilled labor. The Coalition seeks to equip women with the skills and knowledge that have, as of yet, been denied them, and increase their representation in these areas.
Additional Interests
Despite the participation of Vyzandine women in sport and game for multiple generations, no official league has been established for women, aside from that for horse racing. Certain of the leadership also have interests in sporting, and have made appeals for women to be granted a league of their own.
Multiple prominent members of the group have voiced desires to introduce support and care for children in addition to struggling women. The sentiment has spread rapidly throughout the other members. However, the current statement from the leadership has been that children are not the responsibility of women alone, but of both sexes, thus necessitating the establishment of a dedicated organization separate from the Women's Coalition. Efforts toward this goal are currently underway.
