Mage
A human-like creature from the magical realm. They are magic users with, seemingly, fewer “weaknesses” than humans. Mages live longer and have fewer physical/biological attributes some would deem unfavorable. Mages are considered superior to humans but are much more similar than most would care to admit.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Small-medium sized, bipedal magi of very similar structure to humans (having a head, neck, torso, arms, and legs). On the surface, they look identical and cannot be told apart. They can vary in strength, ability, intelligence, physique, and other appearance-based characteristics.Biological Traits
Mages age slowly, cannot be affected by illnesses originating from Earth (though they do have, some, similar afflictions), and can die from fatal injuries. The average lifespan of a mage is 125-225+ years and that can be extended with the use of magic, but it's not recommended. Although the aging process is slow, their appearances do change as they grow older like humans, they just tend to look younger in older age. Mages can possess great strength, but on average are only a bit stronger than humans and will rely on magic/tools when at a disadvantage. They are of high intelligence, self-aware, and can communicate with many different species. It should be stressed that the potential of a mage is great but most will never reach it. Something to also be noted and is a scientific marvel, is the fact that mages and humans can reproduce creating a hybrid species, demihumans. No one knows how this is possible due to not only being different species but mages not being of this world. There seem to be no adverse biological or physical effects of this combination, only social issues.Ecology and Habitats
Mages inhabit the same areas as humans, any biome that supports mammalian life. With the use of magic, they are able to adapt and improve their environments to be more suitable, no matter how harsh the conditions.Additional Information
Social Structure
Mages are social, settling in villages, towns, cities, and nations. Tensions run high between them and humans, so when interacting there tends to be avoidance and hostility. They use different types of government that are similar to humans depending on location and culture. The customs are the same as well, for example, mages have no unique languages as they have been long lost. They act and follow the already-established cultures of Earth.Abilities
The potential of a mage is high. They are very intelligent, strong, agile, complex thinkers and communicators. Wherever they lack can be improved with magic. They are capable of great things, but it is potential and not guaranteed. It takes skill and practice to achieve it. Most will not reach their maximum potential in their lifetimes, thus making mages very similar to humans. The biggest difference usually being they can cast simple spells.Scientific Name
