Alternate History

Although in the TCOG universe magic is real, it’s not much different than the real world, at least in regards to Earth’s and especially its history. Most major historical events are nearly the same even with the existence of magic. This is due to mages/demihumans not being active participants or they lack in ability to make a substantial difference. For example, during wars mage soldiers on average are about the same in strength as their human peers, the same can be said in other circumstances as well.   Societies that are mainly mage are more advanced in terms of technology and other qualities than human-dominant areas, but the difference isn’t severely greater. Magic creates a boundless amount of opportunities for advancement but it is a very difficult skill to hone and really take advantage of.
