Ryan Roswell is what the other students at Carmarthen U call a “lifer”. He’s in his early 30’s still pursuing his higher education. His Work-Study job and his constant presence at the U help keep him in touch with the younger generation. The students enjoy his company for the most part, but when he’s not around they often ask “how old is that guy?” Ryan is very busy with his “hobbies” but he does find time to socialize every week for happy hour and trivia with the other students. Several years ago Ryan had an “incident”. What happened is unknown and even Ryan doesn’t totally understand it. What he does know is that was the first time he met Mr Black. The strange man opened Ryan’s eyes to all the lies and conspiracies that have been going on in the city. Now he feels it’s his duty to educate the people so they know what is happening and can protect themselves from it.   For a while whenever he wanted to spread the truth to the world he would call in to Betty’s late night radio show. After a while he felt like he was being ridiculed and decided it was time to start something new. What started with a flyer on the board at the Student Union has now become a fully formed podcast called “The Black Report”. Named after his mysterious friend and co-conspirator. Ryan believes that the show could put his life in danger, so he never reveals his true identity. The show has been growing in popularity but is still very much under-the-radar for most folks.   He’s always been a bit of a tinkerer and now he actually has practical reason to do so. Since purchasing surveillance equipment on Amazon might be a little too conspicuous, Ryan has made use of what he can get a hold of and DIY’d it to work for him. He’s quite good at these types of projects, but the end result can sometimes be unpredictable.   Ryan only understands ideas like mythos and the Mist based on what he’s seen through Mr Black’s eyes. So, much like the conspiracies that he reports on, he knows they exist but fails to truly understand what is happening. In his pursuit of the truth he hopes to one day truly understand.

Worked at the Karma U Research Library for YEARS. Has recently left that position to take a job at Helix Labs under the pseudonym Shane White.

On the eve of the Niddhagr attack Ryan predicted an apocalyptic level event. He got trolled hard when to the rest of the world it was just another day.   Ryan was convinced he would find the ghost of Basel Camlenn in the Hollows. So he went in alone and needed rescuing from the 4 1/2 Horsemen.   Ryan told his listeners to show up at the Geiss/Masamune wedding and be ready to help the "Souptasters" close a portal to the world of the Gods. Of course they showed and caused a lot of problems. Probably Ryans proudest moment!

Ryan has many holes in his memory. He is literally haunted by his experience in the Hollows.

Ryan is clever about putting things together. Whether it’s MacGuyvering a makeshift EMP or putting clues together. BUT he tends to jump to the first conclusion that pops into his head!

In general Ryan wants to help people. He doesn’t mind breaking laws if he thinks it will help. He doesn’t want to cause anyone physical harm, but, if it will help him on his mission, he might let Mr Black take over and do what needs to be done.
