WorldEmber 2025
I have been on World Anvil for a while now, but I have always kept my world private. It has meant that I could poke away at stuff, make messes, and take long breaks at my leisure. It has also meant that the social aspect of hanging out on a worldbuilding site got lost. My hectic schedule of the past few years has now settled enough that I think I can actually commit to a hobby somewhat regularly. I figured a good way to "prep" for that would be my first try at WorldEmber.
WorldEmber Prep Bingo!
Review or Collect World Inspirations
My notebook and sketchbook are sitting on my desk in front of my computer. I also moved on from reading/watching horror in October to try and get myself back in the "fantasy" headspace. I'm generally a "ride on vibes" creative and I'm feeling energized.
Refresh Your Author Page for New Readers
I didn't do much because I never know what to say about myself. Mostly tidied it up.
Create a Moodboard For Your World
I made a moodboard for each of the major plotlines I am currently working on. See sidebar.
Review Or Set Up Your World Homepage
I stripped it. I'm going to re-do the whole thing and "soft launch" the world again in January. Fingers crossed.
Review Your Category Tree
I have a couple articles that I think would function better merged together. I'm also just a forever tinkerer, so I've moved everything out of sight until my relaunch except for my current core articles.
Tidy Up Your Writing Space
My writing space is my computer, my notebooks(s), kobo, kindle, and a very fluffy dog bed.
Define Your Scope for WorldEmber
I think my focus will be working on my timeline. Right now I have a floating collection of ideas that I think I need to finally focus on fleshing out.
Review Your World Primer Article
Completely rewrote it.
Find An Accountability Buddy
My long-time "co-conspirator" in a few other projects has agreed to be my ticking clock.
Get Some Feedback
Sent my co-conspirator my intro blurb. She said she liked it so there it shall stay.
Finish All Your Unfinished Articles
This... I don't think I can finish this in time for December. I have so many stubs that this will likely be a project well into 2026.
Read a Book
Currently reading: The City & the City by China Miéville (physical) and The Wandering Inn by Pirateaba (audio).
Prepare Visual Elements
I'm not really much of a visual artist, but I have been trying to sketch a draft map that I am hoping to comission someone for the final result.
Make a List of Stubs to Expand
There are three major locations that I think really need some more work: Cin Tayun, Thul, and Oréthes.
Plan Your Worldbuilding Playlist
I have three: cyberpunk, adventure, and horror.
Make a List of Articles to Write
Current Focus: The Five Ages of Aeridos (Horror, Kingdoms, Fire, Enlightenment, Innovation)
Other Options: Vampires, Drahon, or some of the other species.
Plan Your Writing Schedule
At least an hour every night, but hopefully two. If everything goes according to plan during the month I might be able to do a little writing early in the morning as well.
What Are the People in Your World Like?
I can't sum up a world's people when Aeridos is full of humans, shapeshifters (wolves, dogs, cats, boars, etc), vampires, goblins, lizadfolk, trolls, orcs, witches, wizards, elves, fauns, fire dragons, water dragons, and in one weird case (kinda) an alien. I love a kitchen sink world.
Do Some Pre-Writing Research
Does watching documentaries until I fall asleep count?
Re-Read Your Core Articles
Rewrote my Introduction and my article on Magic.

Review Your World's Visual Appearance
I'm not good at this CSS stuff so it's kinda ugly around here. If I find the time I'd like to figure out how to change that.
Go For a Walk
Every morning the patron pupper of my workspace requires walkies.
What Adjectives Describe Your World?
Adventure, Sword & Sorcery, Modern Fantasy World, Magic vs Technology, and Pulp Homage.
