Summer 2024 Camp Prep

Week One: Change

Assignment 1: Consider what kind of changes would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
Aeirdos is currently a world on the precipice. There are a lot of things that are just on the verge of happening (eg. flying machines - a current impossibility), but only if the several simmering conflicts across the world don't suddenly explode in everyone's faces.
One of the major characters in Aeridos is a shapeshifer called Kala. She is a member of the Painted Dog Clan and moving between her two-legged form and her four-legged one is as natural as the flow of water. Kala grew up among her nomadic pack that would live in isolation during the intense desert summers. She is someone who is craving change and discovery, and has decided to take steps out into the great world to find it.
Assignment 2: Based on this, decide how many prompts you'll go for during Summer Camp.
As much as I would love to hole up in my room and just spend the entire month scribbling maps and writing lore, I've got a lot of obligations outside of my fun to meet. To avoid tears and the gnashing of teeth I'm going with the base challenge. I want to get stuff done and have fun while doing it.
Assignment 3: Get your categories and tags organized!
Just because I occasionally keysmash or just not even tag something on occasion doesn't mean... I've forgotten where I was going with this. If I can get everything neat and tidy I'll be pretty pleased.
Assignment 4: Take a look at your meta, primer, and any other high-level document and update it according to the current state of your world.
Meta has been updated. Mostly involved a few name changes.

Week Two: Refuge

Assignment 1: Consider what kinds of refuge would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
In Aeridos we have refuge from the intense heat of the Summer as nomadic packs of shapeshifters settle in for several long months in their ancient family homes, such as the distant dwelling place of Sunwell-in-the-Mountain or the large desert city of Red-Seat-in-the-Desert. Then there is the refuge the strange eldritch beasts must take within their hosts, as they are unable to live without them. Physical homes. Metaphorical homes. Sometimes they blur together.
Assignment 2: Find a community—whether that’s our Discord server, Facebook Group, your RPG or friend group, or something else.
I'm in the Discord! Lurkin'.
Assignment 3: Find ways to improve styling and layout in your world!
This is actually one of my big goals for this summer post-camp. I've kept my world/building/lore private up until now, but I think I'd like to start sharing and interacting more with the community.
Assignment 4: If you’re a CSS wizard, maybe take the time now to give it a polish!
I'm to learn how to use CSS, but for summer camp I will have to put what I've learned on hold. Hopefully after summer camp I'll have a new layout on which to share everything!

Week Three: Belief

Assignment 1: Consider what kind of beliefs would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
There are a lot of religons on Aeridos. There is the multi-"god" pantheon of the barbarian wyldscins, the somber worship of the moon goddess, the cult of Those-Who-Honor-Death, the followers of the Sun God... Some allow peaceful coexistence, while others strive to dominate.
Assignment 2 Create a bank of inspirations! Quotes, music, description of experiences and shower thoughts, etc.
Assignment 3 Find art and pictures that inspire you, and grab a map if you don't have one (and need one).
Ah ha! Finally I feel a little more prepared as I have been working on a map that I finally feel like I can put the finishing touches on.
Assignment 4 Check your inspirations again. Are they still relevant? Can you find any that better represent the current state of your project?
The connected short stories of Robert E. Howard and the modern wackiness of urban fantasy novels are still near and dear to me. I love a wanderer in a desolate landscape, but I also love a concrete jungle of magic in a modern setting.

Week Four: Decay

Assignment 1: Consider what kind of decay would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
The most famous monument to death and decay would be the Necropolis of Thul. Twisted, blackened spires half buried beneath the ground. Nothing grows, and yet the air always has a faint hint of rot. Once the birthplace of the Plague of Rot, it is now a curiosity for tourists.
Assignment 2 If you like special tea when you write, stock up for a month. Tidy your office, make a “do not disturb” sign, and think about any other last-minute strategies to optimize your writing space and time!
I've got my favourite bean ready to be ground and turned into cold brew.
Assignment 3 Review your world homepage to hook potential readers!
Updated my homepage tag. Still fiddling with making everything look nice.
Assignment 4 Take a look at your author profile and pillar articles on your world and polish them!
Added a smidge of a personal blurb to my profile.
