Pitfighting

Most civlized kingdoms and countries have long banned legal pitfighting, but in the impovrished land of Epria it the official pastime. Gladiators are hailed as heroes, with a fighter who makes it through eight fights being considered truely gifted, or incredibly lucky. The longest professional run was by Britta the Beast, a Spotted Hyena Wyldcin, who won twenty-eight fights before being torn limb from limb by her opponant Aut the Lizardman. The smart fighters make it through a couple fights, long enough to get generous payouts from fans, and then retire to comfort, fame, and luxury. Most end up frittering away their winnings on drugs, booze, and short-term pleasures.
