Demigod

Also commonly known as Devils.

"Poppy would spend days at a time in the garage room we got for her. She was always working on some crazy project, whenever she got an idea, we might not see her for days at a time. One day I came in to check in on her, and I could not believe what I was seeing. She was sitting in the middle of the room, bawling her eyes out in a pool of her own blood. I had seen battlefields covered in less blood than had painted the walls of the garage. Panicked, I ran to her side to find where she was bleeding from before she bled out. I thought my own daughter was going to die before my eyes. Then I found it. There was a single cut on her thumb, no bigger than a coin. It was only then that I realized she was leaking far more blood than her body could possibly contain. I tried asking her what happened, but within moments she passed out in my arms. Thankfully she was fine, though that was the first time I truly questioned the nature of my daughter... Of what she was,"   -King Cain, discussing his daughter Candy Pop

Causes

Demigods/Demigodhood are a rare phenomenon condition involving the blood of a mortal, in which they inherit the blood of a God. The exact cause is unknown, as it appears to have no causal link to proximity of cases, genetics, or familial inheritance. Thusly, it can be assumed to be completely random, with the statistical chance of having the condition at birth being one in one billion. Even if an individual were a carrier, it is still near impossible to determine if they are, until they unlock their latent abilities themselves. Until that point, it is virtually impossible to distinguish between a individual who is a Demigod, and one who is not. The only way for a carrier to ascend to Demigodhood is if they experience extreme mental and/or physical stress, to the point where their body and mind would not be able to withstand the pressure without ascension.    Studies and historical texts suggests that this phenomenon is a relic of the Old Frontier, an era in which Mortals and Immortals we much more similar, and were even allowed to marry one another.    Additionally, though it is unknown why, Anomalies are able to instantly detect if an individual is a Demigod, even if they have not yet ascended. This is extremely dangerous for un-ascended carriers, as Anomalies will do everything in their power to kill or otherwise subjugate them on the spot.

Symptoms

Although there are no concrete ways to determine if an individual is a Demigod, there are several potential symptoms which one may have, which are strong indicators of this being the case. Many of these relate to the carrier's blood, and can appear either before or after ascension. They are as follows:
  • Temporary Anemia
  • Hemophilia
  • Irrational Personality
  • Excessive Blood Production
  • Insatiable Appetite

Prognosis

Once ascended, Demigods are able to use their blood as a resource to tap into the powers of the Gods, enhancing either their bodies or their surroundings, or both. Demigods also take on a dark, demonic appearance when enhancing targets, and may also grow horns on their head in various shapes and sizes, and is the reason why they have gained the moniker of "Devil". Some examples of how Demigods are able to enhance themselves and others are outlined below.     Demigods have a near perfect control over their own bodies, even down to controlling metabolic functions, and even the exact internal temperature of their body. Additionally, as Demigodhood enhances each cell of the individuals body, they are able to even regenerate their entire body from a single remaining scrap of their flesh. Their strength can be enhanced several times, to the point where a single flick of their finger can create chasms in the ground. Demigods can also imbue other individuals with minor versions of these enhancements as well. Should an individual be permanently enhanced in this way, they will become Acolytes for that Demigod, whom are able to use a portion of said Demigod's powers as if it were their own.   These abilities require extensive training, and if properly honed can even be maintained on a permanent basis, even without influence of the original Demigod.   As mentioned previously, however, all of these ability require the Demigod to 'burn' their own blood as a resource, and is required any time they make use of these powers. Should they run low on blood, they will be unable to make use of any of their abilities, and won't be able to until their body produces more blood naturally. Because of the nature of their blood, things such as blood transfusion is also ineffective. Effectively, if a Demigod runs low on blood, they become weaker than even an average mortal.

Hey nice article, I enjoyed reading it. Might I recommend making that quote you have at the beginning into the actual quote tool? It would make the article look a lot more clean. But yeah, apart from that I did enjoy reading through! :)
