Azcatlan League

The Azcatlan League holds sway over roughly 40% of the planet Iccauhtli, and is the system's most powerful state. In theory.   The Azcatlan League, in reality, nothing more than a loose confederation of smaller Huitzlian states who decided to break with the Greater Concordance. Expecting a backlash, these states formed a pact of defense, and prepared their militaries in secret. When the expected Concordian reprisal never came, the states of the League were left in confusion, but free nonetheless. Three major states make up the League, though countless smaller communities and tribes contribute.    Alhambra is both the premiere nation under the Azcatlan League, and site of it's capital. When the Concordance pushed the Ameselans out of their home system, they came next to Huitzli*. The natives were rebelling against Ameselan rule, and Alhambra was their final bastion. Only with Concordian assistance did the revolt succeed, and Alhambra became the hub of Concordia's counter-invasion of the planet. Alhambra has a cosmopolitan and urban culture, seeing the rest of the planet as a rustic villages and plantations at best, and backwater jungle at worst. As the first liberated area of the planet, Alhambra has both the legacy and economy to dominate the Azcatlan League. But it does not dominate alone.    Verde Allpacuna, seated in the highest mountains on Iccauhtli, contests Alhambra's claim to lone resistance. To the people of the mountains, the Earthshakers of Verde Allpacuana were leading their own rebellion against the Ameselans from deep underground. Contemporary historians may argue about who revolted first, but it is not the only contentious issue between the two partner states. Verde Allpacuna sees Alhambra, and Portio too, as too Concordian. Where the other states of the League push for a greater space on the galactic stage, the people of Verde Allpacuna find their own welfare and peace more important. They contribute very little to the ASN, and temper the other two states' ambition.   Finally, Portio serves as the League's and Iccauhtli's primary port. Near Iccauhtli's equator, Portio claims two of the planet's seven Skyhooks, and one of its three Stellar HDRs. Portio was the Ameselan capital on Iccauhtli, though they ruled the system from Teica's sky cities. As planetary headquarters, Portio has many Ameselan relics and ruins, and much of their infrastructure still remains. Portio is the industrial heart of Acazlan, seeing most of the country's planetary space industry, and owning much of it off-planet as well. With such power, Portio is home to great companies and merchant fleets, and features some of the best astronavigational academies in the galaxy.    Together, Alhambra, Verde Allpacuna, and Portio make the Azcatlan League into a force to be reckoned with.

Demography and Population

The Azcatlan League is comprised mostly of Huitzlians, making up ~80% of the League's population. The League also has a considerable Kiluru population, at 13%, especially across the planet's southern continent. The remaining 7% are comprised of small ethnic enclaves in the Leagues biggest cities, such as Alhambra or Verde Allpacuna.

Territories

The League is spread across Iccauhtli's southern hemisphere. The League's heartland is centered around the Mar de Hierro, the planet's largest inland sea.

Military

The League fields a small, volunteer terrestrial force, called the Azcatlan Garrison Corps. The Garrison Corps' primary purpose is to ward off the League's terrestrial rivals on Iccauhtli. It maintains a number of border forts along it's massive land borders. The Garrison Corps also contains the elite Guerreros Alhambra, who trace their heritage back to the Ameselan resistance fighters during the system's century of Ameselan occupation. They bring a tradition and honor to the League that even the Bolivar cannot match.   The League has a sizable but unwieldly stellar navy. The Azcatlan Stellar Navy contains few behemoth vessels created by the federal administration, supported by a coalition of non-standardized vessels from the many states that make up the League. The ASN is slow to act, keeping two of its three Federal Behemoths in orbit over the League's Iccauhtlian territory. But when the League can finally muster its arsenal, it strikes with fury and force rivaling the Bolivar Fleet, the Concordat Navy, or even the Confederate Navy.

Foreign Relations

The League has an interesting relationship with the remaining Concordance states of Huitzli*. By all metrics, they should be at odds. Azcatlan is technically a province in rebellion to the Concordance, after all. But in Concordia's contemporary malaise, as well as their interest in making money, The Huitzli* Concordance and Azcatlan League find themselves natural friends. Especially in response to their neighbors.    Portio may get along well with the Bolivar Estates, but the League as a whole does not. While technically a member state of the Huitzli* Concordance, the Bolivar act of their own accord and are independent in all but name. To that end, the Bolivar and Azcatlan have a tense relationship, with a heated naval rivalry. While the two powers have never come to blows, the two nations could devastate one another. Thankfully, their rivalry is limited to building bigger ships. For now...   If Azcatlan is friendly with the Huitzli* Concordance, and competitive with the Bolivar, it is outright hostile to the Chrysos Kyklos. Little more than a puppet state of Carolus, the Chrysos Kyklos are a number of Concordian-supremacist states, Huitzlian-run despotic collaborators, and their debt-riddled colonies in perpetual peonage. Azcatlan may not be Huitzlian ethno-state, but it sees Huitzlians in servitude, and the Concordians lording over them. Many see conflict as inevitable, but Azcatlan isn't there yet.
