STING: A Tender Reunion
(Text for possible inclusion into The Cat, Crow, & Knitten Show - Vol. 2)
The medicine stings as his mom applies it, and he winces. The wound is still tender. He is glad to have both of his parents back, but their timing seems like it could not be any worse. For certain, he wants to be with them because he missed them dearly. This is a time to celebrate and enjoy each other's company once again before they get sent off on another assignment. Perhaps his mom is going to make some of his favorite casserole and desserts for dinner. That excites him, causing him to salivate at the thought.
But now that they need to figure out what to do about Cat's situation, his stalled plans to troubleshoot seem dire in comparison to treats and hugs. Cat's very existence could be on the line, as far as he knows. Such a thing cannot be kept waiting.
Obviously, his knee needs to be feeling better before he can operate at peak efficiency, and it will. His mom always gives him the best care and seems to know how to make any ouchie heal up. She is still in the midst of treating it for infection, but Crow leans in and gives her a great big hug.
"Welcome home, mom. I'm so glad you're back. I didn't mean to make you worry and put you to work the second you got here."
Gleaffle maneuvers one of her wings, the one least busy tending to a skinned knee, and gives him a hug in return. "You know, Coco, I would cross mountains and gorges just to heal you up. My love for you surpasses all else. That's why you're going to explain what's broiling in that troubled brain of yours if it has anything to do with how you got injured. Mama knows something's wrong." She pats his back and retracts her wing to return it to the healing process. "You can tell me. I promise I won't get mad. At you."
