PERIL: They're Finally Home!
(Text for possible inclusion into The Cat, Crow, & Knitten Show - Vol. 2)
"Not get into any?" she quips. "Ha! That's my middle name, Coco!"
Crow asks, "What is? Isn't it Feathergale, or something? I know I've heard it mentioned once or twice, but that was a long time ago, mom."
"No, not that! The thing. The thing that you just said."
"What, that I hope you didn't get into any danger?"
"No! Well, yes, that too would work, but the other word you used."
"Well, I guess I don't remember now. I apologize, mom."
"Peril! You said 'Peril' and I said 'that's my middle name.' Get it?"
"But it isn't 'Peril', is it? Do you mean 'Pearl'? I thought for some reason that it was 'Feathergale'. Gleaffle Feathergale Hangari, wasn't that it?"
"Uhgh. Never mind, kid. The joke is lost. No, Coco, we didn't find ourselves in any peril."
Marziphael nods his head in agreement and ruffles the feathers on Crow's head with his wing.
Gleaffle gets a sharp grin and continues, "That is to say, no peril that we couldn't handle! Me, at least. Your father is a big stick-in-the-mud who peril would probably bounce off of, or go out of its way around him to avoid getting a lecture."
Crow giggles.
"Hey now, dear," Marziphael retorts with a smirk, "Let's not forget who it was that chatted that flock of ostrichmuffins for quite some while into not invading our picnic on the Salt Water Taffy Plains."
"Ha! It was so sticky there!" Gleaffle busts up laughing. "Such beautiful streaks of neon pastel colors, but I don't know what we were thinking, thinking that would be a good place to relax. But we had toughed it out getting across that quagmire, and I nearly lost one of my boots to the muck. There was no way I was giving up that gorgeous view of the Houseofcards Mountains and those flower fields to a group of greedy, crumbly birds. Not while Galavanting Gleaffle is around! Nooooooo, they were packing that up and taking it elsewhere!"
Cat, who has been loitering off to the side, gobbling up every word of the conversation, now grins really big and says, "Oh, I want in on this family! I can tell there's gonna be lots of fun and stories! Hey, Mama Gleaffle. Tell us some stories about Crow when he was younger!"
