The Overflowing Chalice

According to Caradon legend, those with celestial blessings have some innate link to Hōkūlani's Fossil and her Overflowing Chalice. Should a creature descended from or visited upon by a celestial sleep close to Hemasta's fossil, they may receive nigh-prophetic dreams, often of the liquid starlight within the chalice. Very rarely will visitors be gifted dreams of the fossil herself.

The liquid starlight is said to taste like the creation and destruction of galaxies, that each tastebud comes alight with sensation of civilizations breathing and dying, heroes born and slayed. Those who dream of the liquid starlight and, in their dreams, drink from the chalice when it overflows, are gifted access to powers that allow them to see into the future, turning them into oracles and prophets.

Should a creature of celestial blessings drink too much of the starlight and drain the chalice in its entirety, they are instead subjected to visions of worlds beyond their own. They become a helpless witness to the rise and destruction of horrific and senseless realms and creatures who's very visage is enough to rend one's sanity. Some may be made to go about their lives tumbling into these nightmares when they sleep, while others become paralyzed

Historical Basis

In the aftermath of The Lost Moment, Hōkūlani's Fossil was found standing alone amongst a crushed vineyard once belonging to a royal family now long deposed or dead, holding her chalice as though receiving it from someone else, her smile serene yet sad. The chalice held by Hōkūlanis Fossil has been observed to fill slowly, overflowing every new moon. While attempts have been made to collect the liquid within the chalice, both while still within and when overflowing, the liquid disappears as soon as it is interacted with. As such, no proper answer has been given as to why and how the chalice fills and overflows.

Legend states that those of celestial blessings have a connection with Hōkūlani's Fossil, or her chalice, yet no empirical evidence is able to be collected. Many celestial-blessed researchers and volunteers have attempted to receive the prophetic dreams dictated by the legend. However, precious few do dream, and even fewer still become oracles or seers, such that any who do manifest powers may have simply been on the way to manifesting them even without the presence of Hōkūlani's fossil.

The origin of the legend stemmed from when Hōkūlani's Fossil was first discovered by Mohala Loni, a celestial-blessed water genasi whose story became the basis of the legend. She became a powerful oracle, and yet prior to discovering Hōkūlani's Fossil, was a renown artificer with no prophetic powers beforehand.

Hōkūlani - 'heavenly star' from Hawaiian hoku 'star' and lani 'heaven, sky, royal, majesty'

Mohala - to blossom, like the petals of a flower

Loni - sky, heaven
