Warden of the Final Flare
"She who does not kneel to the gods. The gods kneel when the flare burns bright."
--Ruhn, during the coronation at the Shattered Steps.
Overview
TCOSA's divine defense system recently added a new title, Warden of the Final Flare, in reaction to the growing flare-instabilities brought on by Zhaïraë'alya's core fragments and, more recently, those inherited by Sorynna and others.
It is not a symbolic role.
It is apocalyptic, sacred, and practical.
It must be possible for the bearer to:
Withstand being in close vicinity to a complete heavenly flare.
Recursive flare-evils can be contained and directed without unraveling.
Withstand being exposed to works of the Nullatriarch class.
Talk to the Nameless Cores and keep your sanity intact.
Madriacia, Flameborn of the Fifth Veil, was the first to wear it.
Origin of The Title
The title was created in the midst of a catastrophe rather than a formal event. OZiZethrynity's High Sector was almost destroyed by a divine flare, but no containment procedure was effective.
The only one who entered the fire and pronounced its name backwards was Madriacia, who was wild-eyed and burnt. The flame sank into stillness, folding inward.
The title was made up on the spot by the celestial council that day. The following marking is still visible on her arm:
Responsibilities:
The Warden needs to:
Attend every flare briefing held by the High Council.
Take charge of the Flare-Bound Initiates, a small team of agents who have received flare-entry training.
Act as a last line of defense in the event that Sorynna, Zael, or Zhaïraë'alya become unstable.
Every month, make ritual contact with a minimum of one Nameless Core.
Symbol of the Title:
Madriacia's blood is engraved on a crumpled flare-metal brooch. When the core of another deity burns within 70 realms, it pulses softly.
Controversy
Some people think the position is actually a disguised death sentence. Others claim that Madriacia volunteered for redemption rather than duty. According to a rumor, Mal'Rayvyn was initially intended to receive the title, but she declined it out of loyalty to Zhaïraë'alya
