Red tree

The group was running through the seemingly endless ocean of red biomass. They had to abandon the only mode of transportation they had the moment the Red Sea started opening one of its mouths underneath it, and now the only way to reach safety was just to run. Harry looked behind. Just a quick glance back. Right now, he was around the middle of the group. Three people behind him. Only seven left in the group, and they had more than twice that at the start of the expedition. For a moment, he thought he heard a sound as if a massive piece of fabric fluttered in the air and then a wet thwump. He looked back again. Only two people were left there.   There was a second swish, and this time he saw that. Something that looked like a weird mix between a tree and a bat just dropped on one of his companions, piercing through them with long claws. Harry looked up, and soon he wished he hadn't. There, in the air above them was a pack of ten or more trees with singular wings, gliding towards them. One of them flipped around, stretching its leg adorned with the same long claws that killed Harry's friend. It was pointing towards Harry and dropping faster than he could react.
It has been noted by multiple explorers that each of the four Great anomalies has some kind of warped image of The Tree somewhere within its borders. There is the Heart of the Jungle, the Stone Tree of the Grayness, and the Junk idol tree of the Junkyard. And then, there are Red trees of the Red Sea.   Like most of the "living organisms" of the Red Sea, the red trees are just its specialized organs. In their case, they are specialized to deal with any living beings wearing uniforms that would protect them against the touch of the Sea.

Appearance

Red trees can vary in height, measuring between 50 cm and 6 meters. As their name suggests, they are similar in appearance to the trees, if not for the membrane spread between their "branches" (which also gives them the appearance of singular bat wing), the presence of eyes and teeth growing on their surface, and the lack of leaves. Red trees are completely made out of the same flesh-like substance that forms the rest of the Red Sea and share all of its properties, mainly the spread of the Red Death through any physical contact with it.   The main body of the red trees consists of the "trunk" growing out of a singular muscly leg with long claws on one end, and with multiple (between 5 and 100) branches connected with a singular membrane between them on the other end.   The eyes covering the Red Sea can see and discern shapes in the short distance (effective sight: 4 meters), however, they are capable of perceiving even the slightest movement in hundreds of meters. The teeth growing on the surface of their bodies seem to be only for decorative purposes, as they do not serve any function. Red trees do not seem to have any other senses developed, don't reproduce, and don't have a digestive system. They survive and seek out their prey, through the Red Sea can feed them information and nutrients needed for them to continue their existence as long as they are in contact with it. Red tree separated completely from the Red Sea can survive only seven days, after which it will shrink, dry, and die.

Picking target

by Revyera
Not everyone who enters the territory of the Red Sea has the trees sent after them. The way those beings deal with intruders, while drastically increasing the chance of consuming them, lowers the amount of knowledge the Red Sea will be able to absorb from them and removes the chance of spreading the anomaly outside of its territory. Because of that, the Red Sea sends out the trees only far away from its edges, against small but well-equipped groups or groups that could pose a danger to it, and only in areas where the layer of its biomass is thinner, so it cannot create traps out of it, such as Red lips big enough to consume whole groups of people.

Hunting

The main purpose of the red trees is to get rid of the protective suits of anyone who ventures deep enough into the territory of the Red Sea. They do so by jumping high into the air once they notice their prey and spreading their membranes in a way that will let them glide, achieving speeds of up to 6 km/h. Once they are above their target, they fold their "wings" and drop from the air, accelerating, after which they use their claws as spears, piercing through most of the possible protection they could wear. Should the first attack fail in puncturing the suit, they wrap the membrane of their wings around the target, entangling them, after which they will try to continuously strike at the target with their claws, ensuring contact with the flesh of the Red Sea they consist of.
Lifespan
Most live only as long as they are needed by anomaly, but the Red Sea sometimes leaves a few of them for up to a few weeks, letting them grow out.
Geographic Distribution
Intelligence
Red trees follow the commands of the Red Sea completely and won't stray from them in any way. They will ignore any new targets as long as they don't make contact with the biomass of the anomaly. Only then can they be "reprogrammed". Additionally, the trees don't possess any survival instinct and will attack their target until they infect it with the Red Death, or they get neutralized.
Weaknesses
In most cases, cutting the trees down, their trunks and their membrane "wings" works as an effective solution to stop them from approaching, however, the best way to completely neutralize a tree is to use fire or through use of Elemental Crystals, containing the Elements of Fire, Ice or Electricity. One needs to remember that while this will deal with the single specimens, the Red Sea can create more of them, as long as it possesses more biomass. And if it finds the use of the trees to be too ineffective, it will most certainly switch to more lethal methods of dealing with intruders.
Uses
No part of the Red Sea or any of its organs is usable to humans, and any attempts to transport it out of the territory of the anomaly are punishable, as it can easily lead to the spreading of the anomaly.

Growth and distribution

Since the Red trees are organs highly specialized to deal with humans that are already deep in the territory of the Red Sea, the anomaly keeps them far away from its edges, where heavier human weaponry is easier to access, and there would be a higher chance of them being destroyed.
When the Red Sea needs them, it starts to form saplings, a process that requires both time and biomass. In most cases, it works on multiple waves of the trees at the same time, first sending out a single, smaller tree or one tree for each target, should the group be equipped with heavier weaponry. If that first wave succeeds, the creation of the next Red trees is cancelled, and their biomass gets reabsorbed into the anomaly. But should it fail, the being will start to send out bigger numbers of more developed Red trees until they either overwhelm the targets or the task proves to be too costly and time-consuming. At that point, the anomaly either abandons the idea of getting rid of the intruders if they simply try to pass through its territory or starts to create more highly specialized organs and traps to deal with them.

Ooh, thanks for liking the article and thanks for the info! With me trying to finally finish the Bestiary from long ago, I bet one of the creatures will suit the challenge perfectly.
