The Pact Primeval

The Rulebook of Reality

The Pact Primeval is a book, containing the divine laws underpinning the structure of the realms. The original was written shortly after the beginning of the universe by Primus, in conjunction with Asmodeus and Rao. It is unclear whether the things written in the original become the laws of the universe or it merely describes them.

Little is known about the original tome itself. It is hidden somewhere within The Divine Machine and jealously guarded, its existence known only through statements passed down from the divines.
However copies of the tome exist, and are spread across the realms. These copies are strange, made seemingly entirely of metal and no matter how many pages one turns, it is impossible to reach the end of the book. There are no page number or illustrations, only a seemingly infinite number of pages upon pages of gleaming swirling ordan symbols.

The texts describe the laws of magic, divinity, physics and more. Great insight into a variety of topics can be gained by reading the tome, as a reader gains a fundamental insight into the structure of reality. Nobody has ever opened the book to the same page twice, attempts to transcribe a copy into another book create only nonsense and readers that delve too deeply into attempting to comprehend the fullness of the text invariably go mad - the text was not written to be read and understood by mortal minds.
Still, the copies are legendary among mages, and any mage that gets to read the texts within will become much more powerful.

Appearance:

The copies of the Pact primeval are great golden tomes, as large as a human and so heavy no single human can lift it. Their pages seem to be made of flexible steel and its covers of brass, decorated with ordan runes and the symbol of Primus.
