Ring of Shades

Who calls upon death?
This is an opulent silver ring inscribed with draconic runes and set with a large carved onyx. Allegedly this ring was created by Ketior Fulgur, the great necromancer himself.

This ring is a powerful necromantic magic item with a variety of effects:

  1. The ring is a first-grade magical focus and excels at necromantic spells.
  2. While wearing the ring, the wearer may absorb the vital energies of others, strengthening themselves. This can be done either through melee combat or through absorbing remaining vital essence from the freshly slain bodies of foes.
  3. The wearer can use the ring to attempt to rip the soul of a mortal creature free of their body, weakening them or even slaying them instantly.
  4. Whilst wearing this ring, lesser undead will ignore the wearer, seeing them as another undead. The wearer will also be able to command lesser undead if they have no prior orders and have no other undead leading them. (Intelligent undead will be unable to distinguish the wearer from any undead using their magical senses, but will be able to immediately see through the ruse if they actually lay eyes on the wearer.)
  5. Once per day this ring can be used to immediately summon a Reaper into the material world and ask a request of it. However the reaper is unbound and may respond to the summons in whatever way it sees fit, most likely simply slaying the summoner for the audacity and departing for the spirit world.
The Ring's powers may be put to other uses if the user is sufficiently creative, such as using it to interrogate the dead or to use its stores of magic offensively. However such uses need in-debth mastery of the ring and may take the user a long time.
